I suspect that the peeling removal (vs soaking off with acetone) may bey why you're experiencing more weakness & dryness. Peeling off the gel also removes the top layer of your nail. I know the shields *say* you can peel them off, but it makes sense to me it would also remove a layer of nail at the same time, since they're attaching with adhesive, and especially if you're having to pick at it to get it off.

I don't use the shields, but what I do is soak mine off with the foil-wrap method, then I massage in a heavy-duty hand & nail cream. Sometimes I'll even dab a good-sized "blob" of it onto my nail beds & cuticles, and let it sit & soak in for 10-15 minutes before I work it in. I then wait & redo my next manicure the following day. You might try adding some extra moisture between manis.
Since you don't use the shields you probably don't know this but the instructions say to soak in warm water to remove . That is part of the reason you use them to avoid using acetone which is drying . They came off so easily that I don't think they removed part of the nail plate. When I don't use the shields ( which has only been once) I do soak my gels off in acetone remover with conditioners using the nail mates things. I was simply asking someone who uses them all the time if she noticed a difference. I did not have to pick them off or use much pressure or force to remove them . I also remove my gels one day and moisturize and then redo them the next day, but thanks for the suggestions.

^ My mistake, I thought your previous post said it "took some pulling" to get them to come off. I was aware that the shields are supposedly removable with water.

Yes , I said it initially required a little pulling , just lifting really with an orange stick at the cuticle area where they were pretty secure, and then they came off easily . In the future though I think I will just use the acetone, but shorten the time if I use them . I was just experimenting with them since I didn't plan on having that mani on more than about a week and didn't want to subject my nails to another soak off so soon. I will probably not use them on a regular basis. Sorry about the confusion, and again thanks for the suggestions.

I agree. For this reason, I still use acetone, but the soak off time is shorter. I've noticed that when I need to adjust my nail shield during the application, sometimes thin little pieces of nail come off. Mind you, the nail shield is dry and has not been soaked in water at this time. This small amount of nail damage probably isn't a big deal for those with strong nails, but I don't have good nails to begin with.

Between 5-10 minutes. I agitate the acetone with my fingers and gently tug at the corners periodically to see if it will fall off. I also add a little olive oil or whatever oil I have lying around -- about 5-10 drops.

Thanks. My nails are fairly strong, but they are very prone to peeling off in layers, especially at the tips - always have been. I have been thinking about trying the nail shields, but I'd rather not peel something off, even if it's the recommended removal method. My soak times are usually only 10 minutes or so with acetone, so I'll probably just stick with that.

I posted this in the "bargains" thread but I was in Walgreens earlier today & they had ALL the Sensationail marked down. The tags said "last chance" so it looks like they're clearing it out. Possibly discontinued colors?

Tags also said "through July 20" (today is 10/27) but I asked the cashier & the prices are valid. The starter kits were $29.

It looks like they are getting rid of Sensationail like they did the Kiss gel.
