Hermes can be very difficult. If you go into the store carrying one of their coveted bags, you may be treated more seriously. BUT the catch is getting the first one. At 72, I am long past my acquisition stage, but years ago, buying their ready to wear or a wallet would get their attention. It is a game and you just have to play it at many of the stores.
They figure that if all you want is that Kelly and none of their other products, you are not an Hermes customer.

Many people get snubbed when they request a Kelly or Birkin without establishing a relationship with the boutique first. I'm actually in awe of those who have the courage to ask for those coveted bags right out of the gate haahhaha I know the game (and I play it). Anyway, you have seen now that Hermes is quite a different brand than most others and frankly they couldn't care less about your $12,000. The B's and K's sell themselves and are mostly considered a reward to loyal clients. Sounds totally snoody and IT IS. Hermes wants loyal, regular clients who purchase a wide variety of their items. Not just bags. Sometimes clients get lucky and score a bag as a walk-in, but that is quite unusual (and often irritates the loyal clients who hear about it hahahahha).

Unless you plan to shop regularly at the boutique, I'd recommend just getting EXACTLY the bag you want on the reseller market. It will be worth paying the price premium because establishing a relationship can be rather time consuming, requires strategic planning and is expensive

NYGIRL, if you dig into this forum you will come across the game plan. To sum it up, one spends a chunk of money on scarves, jewelry, small leather goods, dishes, whatever -- maybe even an Evelyn, Halzan or something other than asking for a Kelly or birkin. Then, if the stars shine upon you (meaning you have established a relationship with a SA). and you mention your HG is the Kelly, the door may swing open to you. Some prefer not to play the game and pay premium via the reseller route.

It hasn't always been this way. Back in 2008 I walked into the boutique and there was the orange Kelly (see avatar) sitting on the shelf. I didn't know much about the brand but the Kelly caught my eye from across the room; I was smitten. The days of, seeing a Kelly or birkin on a shelf are gone.

If you haven't given up in disgust, drop in the boutique -- better at a less busy timel, get to know a SA and spend time (thus less busy time) asking about the history of Hermes or the leathers. Heck there is so much to learn, or.ask them how to tie a scarf.

If you are disgusted down to your toes, then it is what it is . Maybe you buy a pre-owned purse or maybe you say forget the hand stitching, the craftsmanship and the history, the ability to probably pass that treasure onto your kids one day. Hope you feel better and are less discouraged.

They should be thrilled with every purchase a customer wants to make especially a $12,000 purchase.

There is no lack of clients willing to spend $12K on a Kelly. It is what it is. Me, I'm a loyal NYC customer with a good purchase history. I don't buy just so I can walk in and get the Kelly I want (which I did last month), but I'm very happy I can.
