Different Policies at Wall Street?

Ranag, have you shopped in person with your Visa at WS before?

I think they have a problem with shipping when an item is paid by Visa and the Visa has not been verified by them beforehand. The SA at WS told me that they were unable to ship internationally to me, until I told her she was free to keep an imprint of my Visa (which I had used just 5 mins prior). She did, and it was a done deal.

I think they just won't accept it if they've never seen your card or had an imprint beforehand.

I get shipped a lot of things from a lot of different H stores - and none of these stores has an imprint of my card. I have one store that keeps my card number on file because I shop there so much by phone, but I have never been there physically in person.

I do not like a company trying to force me to use Am Ex - I have serious issues with Am Ex and will not do business with them.

Wall Street has been the only store that I have encountered that tried to force me to use Am Ex.

I hope you found what you wanted Rana~~;) The AmEX is a weird issue but since I rarely shop from out of state I'm not familiar with this issue. Hope everything worked out just fine and you will get your goodie soon!!

I was told by an SM that Amex offers them (Hermes) a little more protection if they send out a bag to an unknown buyer, and the buyer claims it never arrived or arrived damaged.

I helped a friend in another part of the US buy a htf bag from my store. They had never done business with this buyer, and at first refused outright. About an hour later they called back and said they would do the sale, but only with Amex and only with shipping to the billing address. Someone from the boutique talked to me within a day and a half of shipping to see if I knew whether the bag arrived, and whether the buyer was happy with it, so I think the combo of expensive bag and unknown buyer can make some of the SMs nervous.

I got the sense that the store or SM would be held accountable in some way if things went south. Amex was extra protection.

Thanks boo! I hope to have them by next week! :smile1:

gga - all the SA had to do was look up my buying history with Hermes...lol

The Wall Street store can do whatever they please - it just won't be with my money :p

It was the same deal with my friend and my local store, Ranag. She had extensive buying history with Madison that they could look up. My SM tends to err on the cautious side.

I'm sorry they didn't do the sale for you, and I wasn't stating that the store was right about that. If I were an SM, you'd be my dream customer. I was stating what I'd been told by an SM about Amex, and why some SMs insist on it over other cards.

No problems gga :smile1: Do you think if I had Dennis talk to this SM that we could possibly get around this mess in the future? It is such a shame for them to lose sales (only to have another store get them) over such a simple issue.

It really is odd that there is no consistency amongst all the stores. Off top of my head I would have to agree the poster who mentioned insurance issues. Perhaps there is a special set up that they have with Amex for sent items. Still...pretty annoying that they are forcing to use a card that you don't want to use.

I am curious, what is the policy if a person want to send them a personal or bank check? Would they then send the items after the payment clears?

That is an interesting issue GK - I wonder what they would do with a bank check?

I don't do wire transfers to anyone, anywhere.

I don't blame you about the wire transfers. I usually feel that way re eBay, but to a bona fide store, I think it would be fine. I had to puchase a specialized part from Switzerland, and the only funds they would take was wire transfer.

A Bank check is as good as cash, it just a hassle because you have to go to the back, same for wire transfer. I don't have the time to do that.

My SA at Wall St has taken imprints of my Visa so I can use it for orders over the phone. Otherwise they are supposed to use Amex.

My store also keeps my credit cards on file (both MC and AM-EX) I've never had a problem using either for phone orders, but then it's my home store. I've never ordered anything from outside my store, but have had them bring things in from other stores.

Wire transfers to stores are fine. I've done it to FSH without any problems (except the annoyance of having to go to the bank) and with eBay sellers I know/trust. I would not do a wire transfer to anyone I didn't know personally.

My most recent few transactions with FSH have been by Amex (which I calculated at the time was less expensive than the wire transfer and certainly easier). They don't do MC or Visa. Or didn't a year ago.
