Now my " won't work for me" scarfs, a few of them I really HAD to have, a few were purchased just for hanging on the wall.

Mind: same day, same makeup, nothing changed. Again up to down: ok-ish to "hell no!"

I was hessitant wearing it due to the small items on it, but I realized that the all black background helped. Though one of my most leved scarf, it's not the best I could wear
View attachment 4934267View attachment 4934268L'abre du ventI do felt in love with that design that I bought 2 CWs. One stayed, the red / pink one had to go. When wearing the brown - brick side up, it makes me look very old and flat. the blue side works better for me. Alas, the colors are very muted when worn on my neck, altough the scarf in itseld has beautiful colors

(ok and I laughed as my hausband was making fun of me and moved a little bit)

My newest addition. Just for hanging purpose ;) Looks amazing on the wall, on my neck: makes me look sick and sad.
View attachment 4934285View attachment 4934273Grand prix du fabourgWell, what shall I say... I really bought that for the hanging system, as I knew this won't work for me under ANY circumstances. Too many small details, orange, muted blue, what shall I say... But the real bummer was / is the next scarf

What can I say... This CSGM has a symbolic connotation (do you say that?) to me. I bought it when realizing through how much *** I went in my life and after deciding " enough is enough". So I had high hopes, that the symbol of the raising phoenix, worn really near to my heart (I know, sounds a little spleeny) would help me raising as well. That was the very last Carre H had, so I bought that, knowing that it wouldn't look good on my. I still wear it, as it really helped me a lot. But it makes me look sickly, pale and tired. (which I was at that time, but... well).

Dear all, I hope it wasn't too much.

And sorry, again, I can't get rid of the last picture. Don't know why. Sorry
All of these scarves except arbre du vent have too much white or cream for you. This is something I struggle with as well. i Am often attracted to designs with a lot of white when seen flat, but on me, a nono.

Thanks for all those who shared their thought process. I normally just go by the colors and design I like and never really focused on what looks best. I also have a few scarves with the border referenced a few posts back that make the scarves look dated.
I’m drawn towards blues, greens and pinks... time to figure out whether they actually look good on me as I am fair with yellow undertones and maybe the pinks wash me out. Thanks for all the ideas and tips.

I don't have an answer to the question of the thread, but I can throw my current relevant dilemma. I wore Trésors Retrouves on Thursday. A picture was taken of me in it. I thought I don't like the way it looks. Boring and blah. I think I will sell it. Then today as I was putting it away, I thought I love the colors in this. What was I thinking? My Trésors Retrouves is the neutral one spiced with fuchsia and purple. This observation highlighted the problem of something can look great close up and not look good at a distance. I want to look good at a distance but want to enjoy looking at my silks while they are in my hand. I can probably solve the problem for this scarf by wearing it with a fuchsia blouse (which I do not currently own). I really want to LOVE every scarf in my collection. Sigh. It is hard to look great in every scarf we own. And it is hard to know how it is going to work until you own it.
I agree, and I have the same scarf and same dilemma with it! I'm trying to make decisions with scarves I love but don't often wear, and this is in that group. It's too much cream for me, learned my lesson there. But different ways of tying can yield differing results... For me it's still a keeper because I love the contrast hem. If I wear it with a dark grey or dark navy, the hem jumps out. Maybe try some new ways of tying? We are in the same boat with this one.

It will depend on the pink so don't rule them out on colour name.

Also, as the OP showed, borders can really suit some people. Borders, white backgrounds, black and gold scarves, strongly equestrian-themed, or other fashion trend-led stylistic features may seem dated but they were were popular for a while for a reason and suit many. So, again, don't dismiss because features aren't still available new, you may be drawn to them for good reason.

I agree with your self-assessment on these. Nuees imaginaires actually looks good because of the bold break-up of the clouds with the black. On you, I don't focus on the details.

Is it possible to sell the scarves that you know don't do you any favours and replacing them with designs/CWs? I'm thinking primarily of the MP. The design looks great and resonates with you but there are plenty better cws for you out there, especially without a rich cream background.

I have the yellow Plumes en Fete. I have fair skin and don't wear makeup. I am a little on the fence about the yellow PenF and would love to see how it looks on you. I can't really see the brown (undertones) of the scarf, I see the vivid saturated yellow background and the silvery gray. I like silvery gray, it's a fav color for me. I'm thinking skin tone may be important in pulling out colors of the scarf that people with different skin tones might not "see."
As promised :flowers: it’s overcast here today but hopefully you can see the brown/ beige undertones7194B31B-4C3F-4212-95F8-EDB7EA2CFB91.jpeg1CB171AC-BA9E-42D8-A997-AEE9DA0C6722.jpeg

This is great, Ania!!!!! This scarf is really beautiful on you, especially the top picture with the vivid yellow which is the one I care the most about since I'm gaga about yellows. Our skin tones are pretty much similar so seeing that it looks great on you, I am confident about wearing it myself. I'm surprised I don't have a mod shot for this scarf since there was discussion earlier in the year about the Plumes. I also wear it with a pale silvery gray [jacket]! (Great minds think alike!!!). I see the various tones with a brown tinge that accent the different colors, soft pink and blue, and now I understand what you say about the brown aspects of the scarf. Thank you so much for giving me an objective look at this scarf. It's a keeper!!!

Yay! Thank you ;)I am so pleased this was useful! The PenF is such a beautiful design! It looks so different in the various colourways (I have the pink one as well ;)). Haha! Great minds think alike indeed! Rich yellow and grey is one of my favourite combinations - pairing yours with a silvery jacket must look superb!

I have the blue-light brown version. I wish I had them all.

For me, since a scarf is near my face, complimentary colors to my coloring are extremely important. I look horrible in purples, intense jewel tones and all cool toned and darker pinks (dusky or peachy ballet pinks are ok), so I would never buy a scarf that strongly features those colors. To me, a scarf not only completes an outfit, but also draws the eye to the face, so it needs to be in a flattering CW. I can’t wear eye makeup beyond mascara (allergy issues) and don’t want to have to constantly reapply lipstick to make a scarf work...I want the scarf to work with my coloring and help accent and enhance my skin and my eyes as is, so I look my best naturally. Since my clothes are all neutral and complimentary colors, they already work together. I save colors I love that may not be the most flattering on me, like strong reds and oranges for bags and shoes.

I use my yellow PeF all the time and love it. I have a few colorways of this design and I think the yellow one is my favorite...the pastels in the middle are just crisp and beautiful. The first image is my own worn at home. The second is from when I first fell in love with it in last year's only real-live visit to the store, I didn't buy, regretted all year and now received this from my mother as a (50th) birthday present a few weeks ago.

What a scarf in the right CW can do....yes, I put some lipstick on to play up the color on the pic, but all I have on my face is mascara, a little pale pinky peach blush that you could really not see and a touch of concealer under the skin net corners of my eyes. All the rest is the scarf and how it makes my eyes pop and my complexion rosy. It did that in the store without lipstick. :tup:64B855F8-9FCE-4478-8D56-18E45E3788BC.jpegCD5D49BC-B9C4-4CCD-BB60-5611C005C0B6.jpeg

The scarf looks beautiful on, perfect, can't imagine it looking any better. You have just the right sweater for it, too. I have a silvery gray jacket, silk, solid color, that needs a little sewing repair and I'll wear it. (If covid ever settles down). Congrats on your 50th!
