I think this research is interesting and funny. I would like to ask, how many of you have the same amount of cash in the designer bag as how much the bag cost you? I think, long as it's a healthy obession with bags and we aren't going into bankruptcy then it's ok. STATUS SYMBOL or not.

I found it strange how some people have very expensive cars but can't afford to pay rent.

In contrast I think it look cool to have a beautiful High end handbag and have simple jeans and pain t-shirt. Sort of understated wealth.

BH may be like that (I've never seen as many Hermés bags being carried as when I was in Barney's a couple of weeks ago), but IMO the vast majority of folks who live in LA are neither rich nor celebs, and don't go ga-ga over status bags or clothes or cars or whatever. LA is very much a "do your own thing" kind of town, fashionwise, IMO. Walk around Santa Monica or Venice or on Melrose, and what you see people wearing and carrying really runs the gamut from shlump to thrift store chic to designer and everything in between.

Ditto, I agree. If in BH it def. different. Not like it's a bad thing it's just the way it is. Designer bag can be a success symbol to some people, or just buy what you like to other. Everyone has their own way of life and their own choices. I always believe just be yourself:laugh:

When I was taking a marketing class once, someone in the class asked why people would drive a fancy car and live in a dump. The teacher had no idea, but it was simple: Thousands upon thousands of people see what you drive, but no one knows where you live unless you tell them.

maybe because they love cars, every one has their own collection right?!

Food for thought: If for some guys, an expensive car is just a P***s extension, what does an expensive bag for some women mean? A v****a enlargement? Whoa!:amazed:

I hope this makes it past the moderators! perhaps you could put a PG warning on it.:push:

True, but if you follow the general rule that to have a collection, you need at least three of something, the car might not fit the description. LOL
well...I can't rule out the fact that some people indeed get $$ stuff just so they can impress others:suspiciou , but it doesn't matter if it is a bag or a luxury car that you are having, chances are most people will probably only see them once or twice then move on,and forget about it. What you have is yours and it should matter to you the most, because you won't forget about your bags or your cars or any other things you have, but those people you are trying to impress will eventually.:push:

well based on her "name" stussybaby_88 i gather she is a stussy fan, much like i was when i was 13. i think she is born in 1988 which makes her 18. gawd, i feel old. when i think of people born in 1988, il think they are 13 yrs old now. hahaha. and she signed off with "toodlez xox:love:" i doubt she works for anything on the high end magazine research, more like high school newspaper type of thing. i wouldn't be too worried guys.

Sigh, I was born in '88 and even I wouldn't say "toodlez xoxo", lol.

I have to say i agree, she sounds like me in 8th grade when i did a projext on the psychological effects of barbies on teen girls.. haha i was a loser... she probrably is just tired of the "designer" handbag trend at her highschool (dooney.. not "designer" in my book, that and fake louis and coaches) and she can't even afford her fake.... so shes writing about girls who can... how lame!! Not a way to change the world in my book... get on a new forum and stop being *****y!!
I actually think their is no need to be rude and arrogant to anybody. We are all adults and know how to debate in a mature manner and if not there is definetely the need to learn how to behave and debate correctly.

Just my .02 from an outsider here. I came over to ask about a Coach bag I bought on Ebay, and have stuck around lurking because I find the whole subject so fascinating(the designer bags, the expensive tastes in clothes, etc). That said...Don't be too hard on the OP, I admit I have wondered the same things pretty much. :)
