Surely you cannot be serious about the two tones being the ugly ducklings. This is absolutely a matter of opinion. I know several people who prefer the two tone - myself included. :D

Here's mine for reference:

I agree with you 100%. I personally think the two tones are gorgeous, especially yours! Judging by your pictures, you have a small wrist like me (mine is approx. 6 inches). Does the Daytona feel heavy on your wrist? I have a Michael Kors Large Oversize Runway Gold Watch that I find way too heavy to wear. On the other hand, my Rolex Yachtmaster is very light but it is the ladies size.

Thank you, very sweet of you to say. I do have very, very small wrists and do not find the Daytona to feel heavy at all! In fact, my Michele Sport Sail actually feels heavier than my Daytona. :weird:

Jenaywins, it looks nice on you. May I ask how many links u had to remove? I guess after removing the links, the watch won't be so heavy as when u tried it on with the extra long links. I have to remove 4 links.

That is such a unique combination that you chose. I love all of the colors that show in the black mother of pearl :smile1:

I am debating between this and a TT 31mm Datejust. May I ask how much yours cost?

I bought it pre-owned, I don't know what the new price is...
(thank you for complimenting it, even though a bad pic)

Hi Jenna,

Your's is the previous model the 16523, which used a really respected movement (from another manufacturer) that Rolex made lots of mods to. It could almost be considered one of the last watches they made with lots of hand workmanship. That dial works, because it has the black subdial rings. On the newer Daytonas (with movement completely made in house by Rolex), two tone models have all gold sub dial rings, and a lot of people don't care for the newer dials, and the champagne, gray, and some MOP dials are less desirable. But if its a long term keeper and you don't care about resale or trading, then it matters little.

I previously, owned a 16523, like yours but it had a white dial with black sub dials. As for the two tones being considered ugly ducklings, that was how the market viewed them. I've collected watches for more than 20 years (including Daytonas). Back in the late 1990s, the two tones were so unpopular you could buy them all day long with a 20% discount because dealers had tons of them and wanted to get them out the door. By contrast, people really wanted the all steel models. Some stores had 5 year wait list for those, other stores were selling them with premiums ranging from $2,500 over the MSRP to nearly doubling the list price. So although the MSRP of the all steel was significantly less between the discounts on the two tone models and the premiums for all steel models, in many cases the SS ones were costly as much if not more than the two tone models. Years ago if you could find a new steel Daytona at list price you could sell it for a good profit within hours of buying one. You could never do that with two tones. That was simply how the market was for nearly 15 years.

I wasn't picking on the two tone model. I've actually owned one and I do like the Panda dial of the current version. I'm a huge fan of Daytonas and have owned them in several metals versions over the years. Today, I would simply be less likely to choose a new Daytona with anything other than the Panda Dial.

Does the Daytona feel heavy on your wrist? .

You should try one on yourself. Jenna has a previous model Daytona and the weight is different on newer models because the center gold bracelet links are now solid pieces of gold. On the older bracelets, such as the one on hers, the center links are hollow, so its a bit lighter. If weight is a concern, go for a pre-owned ref 16523, rather than the current 116523.

Wishing you luck. I love the Daytona.
