Damaged goods from Shopbop

Good points about Amazon. Although I've never gotten damaged goods from them!

My first order from ShopBop was damaged also! Not a great first time experience. I don't think I've ordered anything from them since. I got a replacement & a discount for my next order.

Doesn't sound like they've been making good first impressions! Not that I would expect a discount in addition to a replacement and not that I want to be unappreciative of their making an exception for me before, in shipping a replacement before receiving the return, but it's irritating me that they are offering lesser service when three different items are damaged. Augh.

i have had good luck with shopbop (and i shop with them a lot whether i'm in the states or not). i had something damaged years ago (i think a pair of johnson shorts...lol! remember those?!), but they made right on it right away. i'm more perplexed by so many CS agents handling the problem than the damaged goods. they have always been prompt and the first person can usually solve my problem ( and always has).

good luck!

^^ I have been ordering from them for years and always gotten perfect merchandise until this year. Admittedly I have been annoying them with follow-up questions, but because they stopped responding by email, I called and got a different rep. Just now I talked to yet another rep with a follow-up question, and she wanted to tell me something different. The whole business of placing a new order with the old code seems complicated, so I am just going to wait out the exchange.

^^ Aww, well, I don't want to discourage you from getting something you love!

Part of the reason I am so disappointed is because I thought very well of Shop bop before this experience. The way they handled the last damaged order (a clearance item) was great, and up till last week I would have said I tried to order from Shop bop over other stores, all prices being equal. I will probably still buy from them if they have something I can't find anywhere else or an item on sale.

If you can find the item elsewhere, it will probably be cheaper since Shop bop does not offer many codes, but I don't think Shop bop has quite become a MUST avoid. They may also be nicer to you, a new customer, than they are to me, a long-time pest. ;)

I got a couple of Jessica Kagan Cushman cuffs on sale from Shopbop recently.

One looked like it had a little scuff in the resin but since these are hand inked, and the scuff wasn't much, it was fine with me. The price was great too.

I got a JKC bangle from Neiman's last summer and it was really poorly inked so I figure these bracelets really vary a lot, Neiman's took it back with no problem. Their CS is really great where I shop (and drool over the handbags).

Until something really bad comes from Shopbop, I am very happy with them (and their sales!).

I don't think I have ever received a damaged item from them, but I have noticed a downgrade in the packaging of the orders. I ordered a silk dress not too long ago and it was crumpled up into a ball in a too small packaging. So I'm thinking maybe the damages come from their storage/packaging/shipping rather than returns.

I had a similar experience a $500+ velvet jacket was smushed up into a ball in a small bag??:hrmm: I sell on Ebay and I don't pack anything like that. I'm returning it for other sizing reasons, but still. The wierd thing is they used to have great packaging, I got some higher end costume jewelry and it was packed so pretty, it felt very much like buying from a boutique, now I get my clothes in balls in small bags? Not a place I feel like spending alot, I mean seriously my $20 items from Urban Outfitters get better packaging!

About a year ago I have a damaged necklace arrive and they were great about the return.

I have always had good experiences when dealing with their CS reps, but I will definitely agree about the recent less than lovely packaging. I love SB stuff and order on a somewhat regular basis, the free shipping is a great incentive. I ordered 3 dresses a few wks ago and while I received my order in record time, they were crumpled in plastic bags (???) and some of the pretty little details were all messed up. They were great about it, but I had been hoping to take them with me on a trip and was unable to. I will continue to buy from them bc I love their stuff but I will definitely take a closer look at everything when I unpack it. Thanks for the heads up!

Overall, I've had pretty good luck with ShopBop for shoes and dresses. One Alice + Olivia dress I ordered last year was missing its belt. They tried to find it and let me return the dress for a full refund.

I once got a handbag from Amazon, and it had many flaws on it...like they never bothered to check it. I have gotten a few things from shopbop, and so far so good. Ups does like to wreck their packages it seems, but that's not shopbop related. I have one order coming in next week from them that was a sale item. Hopefull it's ok too.

Shopbop has good customer service, so luckily even if your item does arrive damaged (including final sale) they will take it back and send you a free UPS label.

I'm not surprised that items in the clearance section have damage because they've been back-and-forth between different buyers and in the mail -- I think OP may be right that free shipping certainly gives people more of an incentive to try things out more than they normally would.

That is terrible that newer items would have damage like the OP mentioned -- I don't know how to explain that.

However, I think it doesn't matter which online retail you shop at, if you're shopping in the clearance section you're likely to find some flaw or alteration on the item. Actually, I find Neimans notorious for sending out damaged items -- recently I received a dress that someone had altered to make straps shorter and then returned back to them !!!

The first time I shopped with Shopbop my package came in perfect shape. I ordered an RM MAMM and since I requested a gift wrap ($5) they packaged my bag in their giftboxes and had a little silver rope tied on it. It was beautiful. The bag was in excellent condition too.

Amazon on the other hand... UGGHH. I ordered an Zune HD from them and was horrified with their packaging. They didn't even add stuffing in the box to protect the device during transit. I was relieved the Zune was okay. And the device came in a tiny box too. I was so angry. And I already had my fair share with Amazon's boxes getting crushed during transit too.
