Cyber Hacker has posted Naked photos of many celebs Online (according to Daily Mail)

The media is never going to let this story go.

Hire a PI (good luck finding one for this case), press charges, be careful moving forward...that's all they can do really.

BTW doesn't this hack scream teenage boy? J.Law? Victoria Justice? Kate Upton?

^^Yeah but then there are others like Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kate Bosworth and Lady Sybill... are teenage boys watching Downton Abbey? is that a thing?

I'm really slow on this but I still don't how they got the correct email of the celebrity. In other scams targeted victims are often randomly selected this had to have been very specific. I know people often use their names in their email but they would still need to know who they had the email with. I can't imagine someone like Jennifer Lawrence would be stupid enough to use JLawrence @whatever.com or JenniferL @whatever.com... anyway I'd always imagined her email would be something like poopyhead492 @whatever.com... or something like that.

I guess this is were other social media comes in. I suppose it's easy to find their email from other social media platforms.

HOld up! SINGER Jill Scott? Jeez they are going after EVERYBODY!

Why is it just women they are releasing pics of?

I think that would indicative of the gender of the perpetrator because James Franco for one has admitted to making a porn tape, I'm sure there are other male celebrities who take naked selfies/videos. It don't seem females are motivated enough to go to such lengths to hack for nude photos (or maybe they are I don't know the gender of the hackers). There doesn't seem to be an equivalent for males... at least not yet.

Although I feel like I've seen stuff on supposed celebrity news/fan forums and sites that while legal is highly dubious. I'm sure a lot of people know what I'm talking about. It's the next level weird stan-ish stuff (often female "fans") that usually follows celebrities (mostly male) who are sort of famous but are just about to break into another level of fame.

Edit: I just saw LADC_chick theory and it's a much better theory, I go with what she said.

My own little theory: That these criminals are men, and even with all of this, they're probably honoring some caveman "guy code." It's "easier" to humiliate women, but humiliating men would probably hit too close to home for these criminals. Like, maybe someone/some people would look at the pictures and make comments about the male celebrity genitalia, and these criminals have put themselves in these male celebrities' position when it comes to that.

Make fun of women's bodies and their genitalia? A-OK. Make fun of men's bodies and their genitalia? Oh, hell naw!

I don't think it's that. Straight males just don't want to see other men naked, let alone spend hours looking for them. It would be kinda weird for a bunch of straight guys to go voluntarily looking for other male nudes, no straight man would do that. Plus if they're in it for notoriety/to make money, celeb females would make a much bigger headline.

Apple says they weren't hacked, that the "hackers" simply cracked the passwords and user names.
I don't know the legal ramifications here but Apple seems to be somewhat at fault because they don't have security settings so that the account locks after several incorrect password attempts.

And yes, the hackers are the ones who committed a crime. But I just heard on public radio yesterday that there is a law (of course I forgot the name already) where the individual shoulders the responsibility once the information is out there. So if you have your iphone to backup photos to icloud automatically, you shoulder the legal responsibility if the photos leak. It is apparently a nifty loophole for corporations.

Which, I think, ties into the "guy code" I mentioned. I think that these criminals are men and, as such, are empathetic in this regard. They can put themselves in the guys' position and not want to be that guy whose stuff gets scrutinized and talked about.

Additionally, were these criminals looking specifically for female nudes or simply looking to crack some phones? Because they did crack the phones of male celebrities. The question is why aren't those nude picture being shared? The answer is not that men don't take nude pictures or that these criminals are not voluntarily looking for male nudes.

This "art show" seems like such a bad idea... it's on the James Franco level of bad ideas.

Leaked nude photos of Lawrence, Upton headed to an art gallery

As if Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton needed their leaked nude photos to be displayed anywhere else.

Cory Allen Contemporary Art has announced that Los Angeles-based artist XLAVA will include the pictures — unaltered and life-size — in an upcoming art gallery in St. Petersburg, Fla., as part of his “Fear Google” campaign.

The upcoming show, opening Oct. 30, will be titled “No Delete,” and will also include seven years worth of other leaked images of celebrities “in their most vulnerable and private moments, that were comprised by either hackers or the paparazzi,” according to a news release.

“We share our secrets with technology,” said XVALA. “And when we do, our privacy becomes accessible to others.”

The artist has been using celebrity images as art for years, including a portrait of Britney Spears with her shaved head and nude images of Scarlett Johansson, the news release says.

“XVALA appropriating celebrity compromised images and the overall ‘Fear Google’ campaign has helped strengthen the ongoing debate over privacy in the digital era,” said publicist Cory Allen.

He adds:

“The commentary behind this show is a reflection of who we are today. We all become ‘users’ and in the end, we become ‘used’.”
We get the idea, kind of, but we can’t shake the creepiness of it all.

Hmm, I posted a thread in the "Up to the Minute" section last week about Russian hackers who stole account information from US banks and that thread didn't get any comments. I'm a little surprised more people are concerned about celebrity nude photos than about the possibility of their bank accounts being compromised. :thinkin:

There's an up to the minute thread?

Not everyone use the same bank or are in the US in this forum a lot more people do use the iCloud and or apple products though.

So who are the new names that were released?

Ladies, there are women hackers also....

Obviously! but if you've been paying attention to all the information that's been released recently the evidence all points to them being male.

This is a large collection and if there were many female hackers in addition to male hackers participating I think you'd expect there to be more photos of males... but there isn't.

I've seen about 6 screen grabs of (now deleted) pages from one of the boards where some of it went down... these hackers, in this instance, are definitely male.

And ooooobviously... females are just as capable as men of objectifying men... as evidenced by all the internet ogling of John Ham's ham and Michael fassbender's bendmeover

Yes!
Or the fact that their government pries invasively into the private lives of its citizens.
