To give an example of what I mean by "dents", the bag in the picture has this dent and look a tad empty...still pretty but I just hope that only happened because she stored it wrong ;)

I hope it is okay to upload picture from the web? If not I will remove it again.

I checked my pics of me carrying my MAMs, they don't normally have those dents/folds.

Well, I usually carry a lot of stuff so my bag is quite full, thus, it does not slouch when carried. But when left on its own sitting down, it tends to have those folds in empty areas. Hope this helps.

is it you in your avator and the photos in the blog that you put down in your signature? if so, i honestly think Cupid will look great on you! Navy would be perfect for your working style :graucho:

i used to like MAM but once i got my Cupid i knew immediately it'd be the one i'd be wearing more. i don't bring a lot of stuff so MAM seems too big for me. now i usually wear my Cambridge satchel, RM mini Luscious Hobo and regular size MAC :amuse:

like you, i am not located in US or Canada. i got all my RM bags online. i don't need to pay customs tax but just the shipping is killing  so, i really like those stores who offer free intl shipping :wlae: i am not advertising but i had great experience with Amazon, ShopBop and RevolveClothing. Nordstrom and BlueFly overcharge on shipping so i don't recommend.

Yes it does! :) thanks!

Amazon.com offers International shipping too? Because the German site does not have the MAM and cupid.
I thought the MAM was smaller than the cupid :p It seems like every picture I see the bags look different size wise.
I did check these sites, just they did not have much of a selection when it comes to the two bags. Maybe in the future they will!
I might even order on Ebay if the shipping and price is right. Some sellers even agree to put a lower value on the customs form and the box is less likely to be stopped by customs.

And yes, these pictures are me :smile1:

So do you feel like the Cupid is smaller? Maybe the sheen is some sort of protective finish? I had this happen with my Fossil bag too.

This really makes me wish I could try them on. But tbh, I think I would be happy with both and possibly purchase the other one in the future ;)

Slouchy when empty isn't a problem at all, I only care about worn. :)

I don't really think the Cupid is smaller I think it's just the shape of more because it's i guess I could say it more resembles a square when a mini mab more resembles a rectangle at least to me the mini mab was just shorter in depth and then wider and I perfected the look of the Cupid which was a bit deeper and the a little bit more narrow on the sides. I think it might of been a protective coating on it because the more I wear it the less shinny it's becoming unless I take a picture with the flash on which makes it appear to have a weird smooth shinny appearance.

Yes, I think the light can really affect the way it looks. The zappos videos seem to be done with BRIGHT light .

I love the lavender color of your cupid btw. I understand what you mean about the dimensions, so it just depends on if one wants a wider or deeper bag shape.

To be honest, they are both so nice I think I will eventually get both, which means I will be stuck shopping RM for a while ;) There are so many great designs, I love many minis too, like the mini MAB tote or the Mini 5 zip...Guess I understand why so many have a RM collection. I wanted to give other designers a try too, but now with this long RM wishlist.... :shrugs:

My husband prefers the MAM btw., but he said the cupid is also very nice (he likes my handbags and comments on the ones he likes :))

Oh, I did not know that! I haven't researched the colors properly or firmly decided on what color I want but I like:

  • All sorts of reds or purples would work
  • Pink tones
  • All blues, that includes light blue, turquoise
  • Sand or grey

NO: Black, brown, green, yellow, orange, white

I fear that is not much help, since these are so many colors...it also really depends what will be available here for me (in Germany) once I have saved up the money.
Hallo. I have both styles but I prefer cupid because when carried on the shoulder cupid looks nicer. I also find cupid more functional with all the zippered pockets. Colours play a big role in choosing the style. IMO not every color goes well with the style. I have a plum and the leather is soft and smooth, and i have a black with gunmetal hw and the leather is a little stiffer and has a little sheen but both are gorgeous. I have 1 MAM in sea glass, which is a very light blue and it goes great with the light gold hardware.

I think you should look at the colour/ HW combination more than the style and decide.

Lavender is also a great colour with silver HW. Plum goes pretty with light gold HW. Electric blue, Navy or pale pink are also pretty.

Good luck and do a reveal once you make your purchase.

I have both and while I do love the new style of the cupid, I will forever be drawn to the MAM. It's a more classic shape and enough pockets where I don't lose things (too many pockets can be a tad annoying too (ie matinee). But i do like the old styles/ leathers (before 2008) best. I do feel that the MAM can transition from day to night a bit better as I see the cupid as a day bag.

Maybe you can fly into London and choose/feel/buy a minkoff there without the customs tax?

I think I really will also decide depending on the color+ hardware combination and leather, and then try to save up enough to possibly get tue other one later this year. :)

I will definitely reveal once I get them! I would be too exited not to :)

True, the MAM is a classic shape, and I love that, the square shape combined with the really big flap! (I love the flap detail on RM's bags).
The Cupid does have interesting details like the zippers on the side, the studs and the handles.

Flying to London + the high exchange rate for the Pound will probably make the bag twice ad expensive. And for me 300 EUR is about the most I will be able to afford I think. If I buy it in dollars it will be so much less in Euros :) Maybe ebay is my best bet and I could convo the seller asking them to write a lower value down.

I have one question about the MAM.

How can the strap be attached to the crossbody rings on the front an backside? I have only seen it worn crossbody by undoing the lobster clasps on the side. One girl on YT even said they are just for decoration...
That is my favorite way to wear bags tbh, because of how the bags hangs when the strap is diagonal.

You can buy rings online or at a local hardware store - mine were called spring gate rings - and use them in between the ring on the bag and the one on the strap.

I have a black Cupid, a mahogany Cupid, and an electric blue MAM. I actually wish I had more playful colors in the Cupid and a neutral in the MAM, since to me, the Cupid is more casual and the MAM is more like something I would wear to work. For my style, I very much prefer the Cupid. I've told several people I thought it is the perfect bag :)

About RM leathers... In my experience you just cannot know what kind of leather a bag will be or how much slouch it will have until it is actually in your hands. My black Cupid just collapses into a pile of buttery melty goodness when it isn't loaded down, I love it but not everyone would. The mahogany (that has been carried just as much as the black) has much more typical slouch - where the bag shape is still obvious but not totally defined. The MAM doesn't really slouch at all, it folds and dents instead. That's probably a combination of the style and the leather - the electric blue feels thicker and heavier than the other two.

I agree Cupid is more casual and very functional. Also more comfortable to carry. I have an older model Cupid with the outside zipper on the back side as well as the front. I want another one but they're hard to find. I also like my bags soft and slouchy. I bought a Cupid in Wine color but it was too structured so I returned it.

I've had a few MAMs. Currently I have a BBW one and a black studded one. I like black best for the MA bags.

i really don't like to add extra rings to hook the strap to the D-rings in the front and at the back
they should bring back the old straps with the lobster clasps!

So RM doesn't provide any additional rings? That is a bummer :(. Why would she have rings on the bag if you can't clip the strap onto them?
If I buy rings at the hardware store, the color may not match.

Maybe my best option really would be Ebay, since I can see the bag I will be getting in the pictures and get a better idea of the leather. I think buying a NWT bag on ebay is fairly safe from a reputable seller?
There is also a good selection of colors for the MAM and cupid.
