Crossgrain leather

I haven't warmed up to either saffiano or crossgrain. I did buy a crossgrain cosmetic bag and I am okay with the accessory but I am not sure about a bag.

I realize that you have to be careful of glove-tanned leather in bad weather and saffiano and crossgrain offer a solution, but I have few patent bags so I am okay in bad weather conditions.
All my glove tanned bags have worn like iron regardless of the weather....of course I make sure to spray my bags to help ward off the weather. That helps a ton!

And I live in a very rainy Oregon.........:rain:

I dunno.. i feel bad even saying this but i grabbed some Boutique ones at a department store the other day and was taken aback by how they felt, i even said to dh feel these!

Not much different than the MFF... it's a strange leather, and not one i prefer on a bag at 300$+

This. There seems to me to be only a slight difference in FP and MFF crossgrain. If not for the smell when I stick my face in the bag, I would not be convinced there's actually any leather in crossgrain at all. I have 3 MFF crossgrain bags, a teal Mini Bennett and two metallic Mini Coras. The material on my stars coated canvas Mini Cora feels to me exactly like the crossgrain leather of my other three. That said, I love my three MFF crossgrain (and the coated canvas) bags, especially when the weather is horrible. My oldest MFF crossgrain is the Mini Bennett, I got it in January. This is the one I'd carry to the apocalypse, because she seems indestructible. I've used her pretty roughly, and she still looks like new except for a little "Speedy sag".

So, to end my rambling, carry what *you* love. If you're not head over heels, return it. If you love it, the rest of the world can go kick rocks, imho.

I'm not a fan.
Got the gorgeous blush turn lock tote a couple weeks back and within 10 days the leather started to crack in two places.
I returned it.
It was too bad, I got a great deal on it but they did not have a replacement for me.

So sad! Leather that cracks within the first few weeks is never a good thing.

Yeah, now that is not good. :-/ I remember having the same concern with their "stiff" patents (ie. the smooth kind on the Poppy Willises, not the crinkle patent). I remember seeing a Willis at an outlet that had a white line in the patent as if it had been bent there. It almost looked like a crack was starting there too, at least in the patent coating, and that bag hadn't even been sold yet. :-/

Coach does soft leathers so much better (even with the softer crinkle patenting). You'd think they'd stick with that strength. :shrugs:

Agree, that was the heart of them. I am leaning on cost saver measure for other direction.

My daughter has the patent Willis and I'm amazed at how great it still looks. She isn't very careful with her bags.

I'm happy with my saffiano items. I don't see any reason to replace it with crossgrain.

Well, that Willis at the outlet (it was the burgundy version) .... I have no idea what it went through, but the coating really wasn't happy about it, Yikes. :-/

(I don't think I've said anything about saffiano though. :shrugs: I do have two bags in saffiano, that I got for other reasons. Eh. Saffiano and crossgrain fall into the same category for me. If I have something in it, there's usually a strong, different reason that I purchased ... color, functionality, even name in one case.)

That's the color Willis she has. It still looks gorgeous.

I have a saffiano mixed materials clutch. I love the black and white crosshatch pattern on it. I have a MFF saffiano Peyton tote which is perfect for traveling. I don't have to worry about something happening to it. It still looks new. The wallet I use most is a saffiano soft wallet. I've used it for a year and a half, and it still looks as good as the day I got it. For durability, you can't beat saffiano. Crossgrain tends to be flimsier IMO. I don't know if crossgrain items would keep their shape as long as saffiano does.
