Well, at least on the issue of the 05 Work, it appears I stand corrected. See link here, in agreement with Muchstuff's recent post:

http://forum.purseblog.com/showpost.php?p=3927705&postcount=89

There obviously are a bunch of little inconsistencies (which is what made me post the bag to the auth thread in the first place, thinking that maybe the MADE IN ITALY was an 05 anomaly, and it appears that in fact it was/is).

I have just slightly less egg on my face because of that fake first sitting there. Still, as Corey said, more art than science. But that should be further reason for TRR to post the appropriate pictures of the bags for people who want to buy them. Who would want to go through all of this AFTER buying the bag?

And with that, I will humbly retreat until my "authentication artistry" has been better honed!

Gawd, don't retreat, we've all learned some important info because you rightly flagged something you felt was off. Clearly, three points...1) There are anomalies in various years and every time one is pointed out we all learn from it 2) The Real Real definitely has fake Balenciagas on their site so BUYER BEWARE and 3) Authentication isn't an exact science so thanks yet again to all of you lovely ladies who put so much time and research into helping us! :urock:

What also is confusing is they're all over the place with color descriptions. For example, this work is described as "fall 2011" and the color of "navy." https://www.therealreal.com/products/women/handbags/handle-bags/balenciaga-motocross-classic-work-bag-27
Well, a quick glance of color charts tells us Bal never made a navy for F/W 2011, so if we were to assume this bag really is navy, it would make it a fake. (Obviously, by looking at the pics it's black, BTW.) It's these little oversights that inspire a lack of confidence.

You speak the truth! Beautiful summarization!

Well .. I have to admit, I have seen some major oddities with Balenciaga over the years, so anything is possible.

For instance, the '04 Pumpkin .. it had a weird almost satin-like lining; was it fake? .. NOPE (I actually had 2 of them - they were both the same). Much discussion occurred over that bag (including Corey) and we all deemed it as the real deal .. but, what the heck? .. a satin-like lining????

I've seen other bags that had the wrong silver plate (oftentimes, this happened when Balenciaga produced a 2nd or 3rd batch), but did not have any more of the plates for the given Year/Season that the bags was actually for and as a result .. slapped on a tag for the next year/season!

And .. let us not forget the infamous "Pierre Cardin" lining that Balenciaga put into the very early '01 FBF bags!!!

Typical Bal stuff .. the weirdness ensues ..

Their copywriters are a hot mess. I think they have a relatively small crew trying to handle an insane amount of merchandise, and they clearly make use of the "copy/paste" feature on a regular basis, then forget to clean up both obvious and subtle details. (I think the 2011 Navy they're referring to might be Dark Night. I looked at that one too, and it looks black to me, but I do think Dark Night photographed pretty dark, so it could go either way?) They also copy/paste on their "condition" descriptions. Everything is "Very Good: faint wear to exterior, faint wear to interior." Or when you can see plain as day that the leather on one corner is totally thrashed and worn through, they'll write, "faint wear to corners." It's like shopping blindfolded... with no returns. But again, their failure to be thorough means that if anything at all is amiss or not described, you have the right to return. In my experience they've at least been good on that count.

Given the fact that their CSR sent me back a link to tpf to document the all caps 05 anomaly on the black work, they obviously are on here, so I wonder why they don't stop by these threads to find out what's bugging their customers and use it to make their business better. Maybe it's just Balenciaga people who are frustrated, and it's too small an army to hold any sway.

Therealreal is terrible with Hermes scarf names. They try to name every scarf now, but they are doing it poorly. They call a scarf with whatever names, showing they don't know anything about Hermes scarf. For example: Madison Avenue they call "Hremes the new fort of the new Amsterdam Scarf". For Petit Duc they call it "Project de Voiture scarf". It's a joke. How can you trust them on authenticity when they don't even know the right names of their products. I think they have new people in the staff. The old way is better.

Just checked out their website having been promoted by you, I noticed another error - a scarf was listed as a stole ( based on the pics listed ) .... Also how can anyone (who is not familiar w H) purchase a plissé without a spread out picture 😮

Agree that it is a joke.. That is why buyer beware.. You have to due your
own due diligence no matter where you buy these days!!:smile1:

I just consigned my diamond earrings to the realreal , I could not believe the price they put on my earrings. It's not live yet, I compared my earring ( color , clarity ..) and mine was significantly listed lower. I will call them Monday and ask why. These are a huge deal or steal!! Just frustrated, first time consigning with them.

I was able to negotiate a better price on some of my items but even then they run a 20% off and it stinks, but it avoids the hassle of dealing with a third party. With an item like diamond earrings are those final sale-to avoid tampering etc?

Decided to have another look at The Real Real & did find a couple of items that
were of interest to me & described in excellent condition. So I bit the bullet & ordered.

What a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!! Who ever described those items, wasn't wearing
their glasses or any glasses for sure! There was wear more than I would consider
acceptable.

While I will say their prices are ok, right now & for the future I will be buying
in a department store where I can see the items up close & personal, get free shipping
& free return shipping as well.

Lesson learned!!

Hopefully they'll improve with naming the scarf titles, but I agree, need better pictures/spread out for plisses. It's like buying in the dark now.
