Consigning/buying with The Real Real TRR

I’m so stunned to read these recent comments as I have had quite positive experiences selling Hermes, Gucci, Chanel and other brands to TRR this past year. I have also had good customer service relationship with my TRR representative.

I appreciate all of these posts and I will be more alert going forward when consigning and shopping on TRR.

Huge warning!

I buy on TRR all the time and because their shipping is hefty, I always buy multiple things to avoid the $14.99 shipping. I purchased 4 items last night, one had the 20% off with code “REAL” on it.

Long story short, I noticed I was overcharged so I sat down with my calculator and figured it out. Then messaged a CSR and they confirmed I was accurate.

1) they charge sales tax on shipping. Absolutely insane. It was $1.08 but it’s the principle.
2) when they advertise 20% off with the code, that 20% off is already factored into their price.

Example: I bought a dress which was originally $575.00. It was marked down on their site to $460. I thought the code would give me 20% off of 460 but no, 460.00 is the final price. The 20% off didn’t do a darn thing.

It feels super shady. We will see if I like the dress enough to keep it for that price but come on.

So note to self, 20% off doesn’t mean jack.
I also noticed that when I returned all the items from my order, the final balance included not only the shipping fee but also an additional charge. I assume this is the sales tax on shipping you mentioned. Thanks for pointing it out.

I know buying bags on TRR can be scary with authenticity concerns and their return policy however, I wanted to share.

I have been stalking a very specific fendi mini peekaboo iconic in a particular color/style for 2 years now. Fashionphile had it for $3095, then it went $10% off, then had the 10% off special promo but was still going to be $2500. I found the exact bag on TRR in very good condition for $1500. I didn’t think, I just bought. It arrived yesterday…with dustbag, all original cards and paperwork and has stickers on the hardware. This bag is brand new. I feel a bit guilty because I know someone could have gotten more for it but I am thrilled. Sometimes it is worth it to take the chance.
Something similar just happened to me - I've been looking for a specific LV Twist that comes available rarely - the last time it was posted on both TRR and Fashionphile it was selling for $4500.

Saw one pop up yesterday on TRR for $1900. The description was only 'very good' but I zoomed and inspected and couldn't find any signs of wear. We'll see when it arrives but gosh, I'm certain the seller could have gotten a much better price somewhere else.

In some states (like mine), sales tax is legally required to be charged on shipping. It gets complicated in some states.

Different states have different sales tax laws. In my state, sales tax is levied on the delivery charge. Sales tax laws can get complicated, depending on the state.

Most of the time, it's the easiest consignment experience imaginable - no photographing things yourself and then submitting for a quote, just box the stuff up and they do the rest. However, you have to keep a close eye on your stuff in the seller section of the website and when things go wrong, it is a royal pain in the arse to get them to fix it. And unfortunately I have noticed in the past year or two a marked increase in the number of times things have gone wrong with my items.
