It is because I would feel so nervous and uncomfortable about being in this situation, I have never worn diamonds stimulants or any costume jewelry for that matter. However, I've been reading a lot about cultured diamonds, which are slowly coming into the market. Unlike CZ or moisanite, these are actually real diamonds, but made in a lab starting with a small chip of mined diamond that is put under extreme pressure (apparently, to get a 2 ct stone that is white, takes around 2 weeks). If these become easy to purchase, I would wear them and have no problem saying they were real.

Isnt this how moisanite is made ?

Haha, a funny story! When I was a teenager someone gave me a cubic 3 stone, it looked good & it only fitted my engagment finger.
Well I had an obsession with diamonds & went into the local jewellers with my friends one day to browse. Now I knew the owner, she was the mother of one of my friends. There was me all happy with my 3 stone "diamond" not thinking that she would notice it & she said to me "Why don't you take that hideous thing off & wait until someone buys you a real one" How rude can you get????????
I mean I was about 15!!!! :wtf:
I would not wear a cubic now!

I think its tacky and intrusive to ask anyone if any part of them or anything on them is real or not. JMO. From hair on down.. just acknowledge u like it and move on.
If someone asks me..depending on if i am on my monthly or not:p I might challenge them asking them why they feel the need to ask me such a question. Usually i ask.."what do u think? does it really matter?"

Haha, yes if people are going to be so intrusive, they should be prepared for whatever question they get back. I have had some really rude people(strangers for that matter) asking not only about my jewellery but even hair color etc. The audacity of it is quite unbelievable:wtf:

i dont wear CZ because diamonds are special like handbags are special to me, wearing a CZ would just be trying too hard and no matter how hard you convince yourself it looks real---there are ppl out there that can tell that its not.

:wtf: That's harsh!! Especially for a teenager! Geez. :hysteric:

No, not at all. Moisanite is a man made simulant (silicon based and therefore distinctly different chemcially from real diamond, which is carbon based). Appollo diamonds are identical to diamonds chemically, physically, etc. because they are carbon based and begin with a piece of real diamond and "sprinkles" of carbon atoms. The machine they are placed in simulates the pressure of the earth (where mined diamonds are formed) to "grow" the appollo diamond one atom at a time to make a larger rough stone (to "grow" a rough diamond large enough to get a cut and polished 1 ct out of takes about a week, I read somewhere). See this link for better explanation

Apollo® Diamond INC

Here is an interesting article in Wired magazine on the topic too.

Wired 11.09: The New Diamond Age

Currently, Appollo is making only .50 - .75 ct stones and selling them in earrings, rings, and necklaces. They plan to roll out 1 ct stones at the end of 2007. The profits of their fine jewelry sales will be used to build out their manufacturing of diamonds for industrial purposes. Its pretty interesting.

I never quite understood the draw of moissanite because it is kinda expensive! Might as well buy a real diamond for the price.

As for CZ, I mix and match my jewelry. All my rings are real but I don't wear real diamond earrings because I'm afraid I'll lose one. I adore QVC Diamonique and have a few different stud sizes from them. I've never lied and said they are real though. I would feel kinda weird about lying -- I always assume people can tell the difference. I do agree that it is just rude for someone to ask if your jewelry is real.

I would never tell anyone that something is real when it's not. Personally, I find it tacky and misleading. I don't feel the need to portray myself as something that I am not.

I like to mix and match my real and fake. I have never had anyone ask if what I am wearing is real. I have had people compliment me on my fake jewelry and I just say a simple "thank you"
Everything I wear I think is very believable most of my rings are between 1.5 and 2 ct. and on the simple side.

I was at Tiffany's buying something and the SA went kept complimenting me on my CZ and I just said thank you. I would think they would be able to tell real from fake.

I have a set of CZ studs that I love to wear all the time. If someone asked me I would tell them they are fake. I mean, why lie? You're not really going to gain anything by lying. Plus, your CZ's probably look just as good as the real thing, but you spent less money.

I wear CZ studs on vacation and moissanite studs all other times. I can't wear fake on my hands, but I lose my studs constantly so I will never buy the real thing. I buy my moissanite on ebay so it is still only a fraction of the cost of the real thing.

Okay, moving on.... I must tell you all my rude story of the week.

I was at a jewelry store the other day and the jeweler asked to use his diamond tester on my moissanite because it would test as real. I could tell he really wanted to ask me about my e ring because it's so sparkly. I knew he thought it was a CZ (not the best jeweler). In any case, instead of asking me, he walked right up and tested my diamond while it was on my hand!:amazed: Then, he looked surprised and asked if it was moissanite as well? I said if it was, it wouldn't be so white and it was a diamond just like the tester stated. That man is not educated enough to own a jewelry store... and how rude was that? It just goes to show that most people don't have a clue.

ITA!! Its like carrying a knock-off bag and telling people that its authentic. :push:
