Collonil Leather Gel

Hi I know this probably sounds a stupid question.. But whats the best way to use Collonil Gel? In the past I havent protected my bags (yes stupid) but then I have always been vigilant and not let them get wet. I have now purchased of the internet some Collonil but it hasnt come with any instructions. Any tips?

I don't have the collonil gel, but I have the clarks crem. To apply that I use an old sock and rub it on.
