Hi Rehab Experts! Do you know if metallic leather is cleanable? I bought a Coach Marielle Drawstring Bag in Platinum(?) Metallic leather. However, I've never 'dunked' or used a washing machine on a leather bag, and this metallic leather looks quite fragile. I've only used topical leather cleaners, but I don't think they would do the trick for this one. I hope someone has good advice because I'm clueless. The price was great and I've always wanted one of these. Your advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I had this bag a very long time ago. I haven't a clue how to clean it. I think it is quite delicate. I don't think it would hold up to dunking or washing. The metallic stuff would rub off. You might be able to fix it up with metallic paint.

Oh no! That's not good... if I remember correctly (from when this was still in stores), it also seemed like very porous leather, so maybe leather cleaner wouldn't be a good idea either. I don't think the care card will be included. :-/

Out of curiosity, what would you do? Thanks for your reply, by the way (I don't think I sounded very grateful above).

I had a bag with that leather. It showed wear very easily. I couldn't make mine look any better. I gave up and sold it. Ravvie99 used a powdered pigment on a bag. You might want to try that. https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club.833400/page-811#post-30600493

I also think there are some metallic acrylics out there. I think painting it would be your other option.

So I have a few busy days coming so I wanted to report in on the teal suede Anniversary haversack. It is almost dry after less than 36 hours, which I sort of hoped/expected between the weight of the suede and going through a spin cycle.
First off, after going through a gentle cycle in old school top loader (filled the tub with warm water 1/2 way, rest with cold and teaspoon of baby shampoo, in an old flannel pillow case secured with hair elastic, with a dark towel and sheet , not quite a full load) there does not appear to be any fading and there was no bleeding onto the lining.
Overall I feel it was a very good result! The bag overall was grimy. I had toothbrush spot cleaned a few areas here and there with a dilute Dawn solution and that did remove some surface grime. There was still marked grime over areas of stress / contact like the front and back pockets and creases that angle down from the handles that naturally occur from using and carrying the bag. And this bag was used!
So my result is that there is still some *dirty* discoloration in the areas where it is prone to happen. However I feel between the gorgeous teal color *popping* out after the wash combined with the *dirty* areas being dialed down a couple of notches, I can look at the whole bag and will enjoy it!
I will post a pic when I can, but do to my photo skills and lighting, am not sure if I can capture the sublte changes, as I didn't capture the full grime effect in my before pics.
Brushing the daylights out it as I finish my coffee:biggrin:
Thanks to all who post their processes and suggestions here, you made this happen:flowers:

Awesome! Glad there was no bleeding or catastrophe!

I got this wristlet at goodwill today and while I'm waiting for authentication (I think it's ok) - do you think I could toss it in he washing machine inside a pillowcase or something? I want to spot treat a couple of stains and it's generally a bit dingy. Not sure if that suede strip will ever come clean!

I would probably put it in the washing maching inside a pillowcase.

I would scrub the whole front and back with spot treatment.

Has anyone tried food coloring or Easter egg coloring to refresh worn spots or "dye" a bag? I was trying to think of alternate ideas in place of acrylic paint, which I never have luck with in color matching. I also tried mixing some nail polish today to get the right color for corner touch ups on a cheapie non-leather bag I bought on Mercari. It worked pretty well but I don't think I'll try that for my leather bags. Just some ideas to toss around!

I think someone uses RIT liquid dye with success.
