I'm a new rehabber too. I can't answer your questions but I can say I thing it's coming along great!!

Ps. I'd look at vintage fossil bag listings on eBay and see what they list it as.

It took a little more research than the creed number. But, I found the actual serial number and this is a Blackburn satchel that retails for $128.00. Looks like it came in a bunch of colors.

So after scrubbing, my fingers are now green... and I'm not real confident that the waxy-like stickiness came off. Hmm, now what to do? I might need to find some matching twilly type scarves....

Ok, here's an update of the Fossil bag. Look at that pretty green! So much more vibrant that my first shot. Definitely less burnishing. This is also where there is a little pen mark, I think the pebbleyness hides it.

Also, another picture of the edge kote. What color do you think that is? Tan, maybe?

Do you think Fossil is copying Coach with a creed? Here is theirs too.

Now to go dunk and scrub the handles...

Thanks for all your help!
My Fossil has a patch with the same number as yours. I wonder what the number means since mine is different style. Not all Fossils have a patch. At the Fossil store, they told me it is only put into limited editions.

Hi everyone!! I'm thinking about buying this very sad looking drawstring sac from the late '80s. It's from the light weight line. Any thoughts on rehabbing this one ? Link http://******/1e4UFjb

The bit of research I did stated that the number on their patch is for bags made during a period of time, so maybe a season or year? Inside your bag there is a fabric tag that has the actual serial number on it. That's how I found out what my bag was.

WOW! I guess I certainly wouldn't hesitate to dunk that one. Could be a good starter rehab project and if it turns out, you'd have a great bag. I hope those who are more experienced chime in.

I found it. Mine is on a sticker on the fabric tag. I googled the number and didn't find anything.

Here's what my serial number tag looks like...think your might be under the sticker?

I also just realized that the previous owner unstitched and removed the open interior pockets... those could have been handy...oh-well.

My handles are still a bit waxy feeling they are still damp yet though.

I have a question that coming from a newbie might sound not too dumb.

I got some Coach fabric cleaner from Coach directly, so I know is not just some "who knows what" liquid claiming to be the real thing. I understand that some stains will come off and others will not, but so far or I am being unlucky with the type of stain, or the cleaner is not effective.

So this is my question as I never used it before. Is it supposed to be a clear liquid, that makes no suds if you shake it, nothing... If I am asking is also because when I got the package from my mail box, the cleaner was totally frozen, with the bottom of the container bulging out, when it started to thaw the liquid was coming from the closed top, so I want to make sure that is the way is supposed to be, and freezing had no effect.

Thanks in advance.

Now for my City Bag rescue...a putty-colored Coach Leatherware City bag from 88-93 that had been splattered with who-knows-what... and had visible remains of maybe a sticker on the bottom. Also had broken stitches on the back pocket piping and was flat as a pancake! Before pics are here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-818914-616.html#post25957789

Not perfect, but greatly improved...and usable!
Joodlz, it looks pretty perfect to me! I am always so impressed with your rehabs!

I am still on my first attempts and I feel as if two of the bags I washed look worse, not better. I wonder if it is sometimes a better choice just to go with CPR and not dunk at all?

I'm sure it is all in the conditioning, but one seems to have lost the nice patina it had when I bought it (I'll post pics in a separate post).

Anyway, I know you've posted your methods before, but I have another question. Do you put the Leather CPR on thick and let it soak in (for minutes/days?) or do you keep rubbing (sometimes I use my fingers) until it is absorbed into the leather?

And regarding Blackrocks, the instructions say to apply a small amount with your finger, then rub it all over with a paper towel. Is this what you do?

Thanks in advance for your expertise!

Hi all,
I got this Metropolitan bag the other day from my local thrift; had it authenticated over on the other thread.
It actually looks to be in good shape; not dirty, inside clean, no marks. I'm thinking a dunk would be excessive and that I should just condition it with Leather CPR. What do you all think?
Also, I'm wondering about the frayed edges on the front pocket. Has anyone ever trimmed those to give a cleaner look to the bag? If so, how should I do it?
Thanks for your advice, as always!

I haven't done much rehabbing, but I think Leather CPR would be all you need to do. I would go ahead and trim the frayed edge too. Looks like it's in pretty good shape, just dry.

I have trimmed frays on bags before. Normally on an unlined bag I would dunk anyway. It would plump up the leather and make the color deeper. But since you haven't noticed any difference in the bags you've dunked, you might not want to.

Mine doesn't look like that. The sticker has a 7 digit number and there is nothing under it. When I first got it, I remember finding one like it on ebay. I think I'm going to wash it again.

I've done the Leather CPR both ways, but I've discovered that sometimes when I put it on thick and let sit, I will get swirly marks. So now I spread it on sort of thick, but start blending it in within about 5 to 15 minutes. The paper towel method works best with Blackrocks. Also do one part at a time; put it on a small part, rub with the paper towel, then do another part. When I'm all done, I'll give a final buffing with a brush or cloth.

Bummer there isn't a serial number. I'd like to see it unwashed and washed... any idea on how to get my handles clean? I soaked and subbed then with a toothbrush....they still feel waxy.
