Hi All! I first want to say thank you to everyone who posts their rehabs on here. I have gone through so many old threads to learn from all of the work you guys have done. I have recently completed a few light rehabs on smaller vintage bags-- just cleaning and conditioning needed. But I am completely stalled on my next bag. I bought this beautiful NYC satchel for a steal on ebay. She looking like she would just need some minor work and she would be beautiful. Well, to my surprise, the box arrived completely covered in some sort of greasy substance that leaked through to damage one side of the purse (flat part of bad, bottom piping, and side piping). I was able to get a refund from USPS, but still want to see if there is anything I can do to minimize the stains. The creed is glued on so I am hesitant to dunk (and honestly have no clue if dunking would help). I tried some lexol cleaner and it did not do anything to the stains. I also tried the cornstarch method suggested by many posters online and there wasn't a difference. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Oh how awful! I'm glad you got a refund. Sometimes when I hear about delivery trucks in accidents or fires or floods, I wonder about the contents. I wonder what happened in this instance.

Another rehabber used Sno Seal (plus heat) on a strap that was cracked, then used Melotian on top of it to restore lost color. I haven't tried it myself, but I'd to try it. Her results were really good.

Thanks! I was wondering if it had some magical filling in quality. It's been on my list to try just as a top coat. I've stopped using Obenaufs since the last 2 jars I've purchased have gone rancid too quickly.

Here's my first rehab project. Thanks to @whateve for authenticating, and for her experience and so many others in sharing their wisdom in rehabbing these vintage beauties.

My bag, a Coach City in British Tan, that I purchased at a consignment store. I wasn't actually shopping for myself...:-s

The next pics are after a Brasso clean up of the hardware, a full immersion soak in the sink and a couple of coats of Lexol conditioner. The water from washing her was FILTHY--I was quite horrified but I guess I should have expected that. There were two "I have no idea of what that might be" gobs of stuff that came off in the bathing process.

After a third coat of Lexol and multiple circular and deep rub massages. I had an extra brass hang tag that I got from an SA awhile ago to put on her as the original hangtag was missing.

I can still see the pen marks, some verdigris from the brass and the back wrinkles did not fully come out. She must have been quite dry as the colour is very rich now. But she's in great condition overall. The seams are intact and there's no real wear in the edges. The leather is super thick and heavy. I had a lot of fun with my first project and she's still quite presentable for carrying around town!

Great job! That bag is beautiful!

Wow, stunning work on this beautiful bag! Isn't it just so gratifying to fix up these neglected beauties? Well done and I love the shiny gold hang tag, really makes her gleam!

@musiclover it looks awesome! I just did the same rehab on the same style bag! I did 3 coats of leather CPR but mine didn't turn out as darker looking. Does Lexol conditioner make leather darker?

Your bag is beautiful! You've done a great job on conditioning the leather.

I used Lexol conditioner because that's what I happen to have at home. I use it to condition my Coach bags. I'll have to look around for leather CPR as another option. I think it might make the colour a bit darker but I'm expecting it to lighten slightly. I only say that because that's how it's been for my other bags and boots.

Thanks! I really liked the first bottle I used. For some reason this 2nd bottle I feels tacky on the hand. Has anyone noticed this with their Leather CPR? Not sure if they changed the formula. The bottles looked exactly the same.

Thanks so much, alansgail! I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.

I'm trying to stay focused on just enjoying this handbag, but there's a small part of me that says, hey, let's get another bag to rehab! I am feeling very gratified to have been through this process, and it makes me really appreciate the quality of Coach leather and the work of all of our fellow rehabbers. It was quite fun and I have a good feeling of accomplishment. My bag is over 20 years old! I can't believe it still looks this good.

I do love the gold hang tag myself...anything for a bit of sparkle!

Oh, no worries! Yes, re-habbing is definitely addictive! Just keep looking for those bags in need of help, there are many of them out there. The older Coach leather was just magnificent....again, job well done.

That hangtag looks terrific! Nice work on the rehab - the color came out great.

Here's a rehabbing challenge!

I have this bag and I believe the style is extremely rare. I think I've only seen 3. I think the piping is plastic. It is the only part that doesn't look worn. I think it is plastic on mine too.

That poor bag we talked about earlier went for $110.28. I can't believe someone bought it for that much! I decided not to bid after the bidding got over $20.
