The latest addition to the to-be-rehabbed mountain. It's Bonnie for Meyers but thought y'all might enjoy it anyway. Shockingly, there is only a pen mark inside so it should be super easy. The lobster clasps look similar to the ones on the early Dinky with the side grommets - guess I can forget finding matching ones to lengthen the strap!

I'm so jealous! What town would I have to move to find these awesome thrift store scores you keep unveiling? That original Rambler and NYC City Bag you posted over on the AT thread...Wow!

I've been crazy lucky the past week!
From reading the AT/rehab archives, I think I shop the same area as katev did (or maybe still does?). She had some really nice finds. Plenty to go around - the Midwest loves their Coach! [emoji6]
ETA: I brought my 'y'all' with me when I moved here, heehee.

California is the worst place for thrifters!

You're so lucky! Florida is great too. That is where JOODLZ finds lots of stuff.

Ladies... Does anyone have experience dunking exotic leathers? I'm considering an ostrich bag but curious if it can be rehabbed the same way as regular leathers? Doesn't need scrubbing, just a cleansing bath. Thoughts, comments, concerns, etc? Thanks!

If no one chimes in, I'd try searching Docride's Hermes Nightmares rehab thread archives. I know she has talked about ostrich and seem to remember her saying it was a pretty strong, hard-wearing leather.

Baking Soda in a very handy box! Found it at the Dollar Store. Flow-through, no-spill design allows you to place the whole box inside a purse for odor removal. I'm using one right now for faint smoke smell (undisclosed by seller, but I should be able to make it go away so I'm keeping the bag.)

I'm going to look for this! I always seem to make a mess with the baking soda. I usually dunk first, because sometimes that will take care of it, then I spill the baking soda on the clean interior. That stuff is a pain to vacuum out of small bags.[emoji52]

I bought Odorzout. I didn't want to sprinkle it inside my purses since they were already rehabbed, so I put some in a cup and put it inside. I'm not incredibly impressed. Maybe it has to be spread on all surfaces for it to work? One of my bags has a mild smoke smell. I think that has gotten better but it isn't completely gone. It's been about 2 weeks. The other one has a minty gum smell and that doesn't seem to have changed at all.

Did you use a fan - that made a big difference when I used it. I did put the granules directly inside, but also just let mine sit for weeks at first. I noticed a much greater change once I put a fan on them. I also changed the granules a few times while using the fan.

No I didn't. I'm not sure how to do that inside the purse. I don't have a small fan. One of the worst places in the minty smelling one is inside the zipped pocket. I don't want to stretch it out.
Neither purse is bad enough that I want to start all over. The next time I get a smelly purse, I'll try OdorZout first to give it a real test.

Agree with Ravvie99, I've found the fan is a must with O dorzout-it needs the air circulating to absorb the smell. If you have a ceiling fan, maybe put underneath one of those overnight to see if that works. We sprinkled on tile floors and just turned the ceiling fan on and it worked fine.

I haven't had any problems sprinkling directly into the bag as it shakes out easily but then again, this was before I dunked too.

Hope you get it de-smelly-fied!

Ergo before/after using the Leather Master Dye Transfer Remover applied w/ the detail brushes I got from Tandy. Took a lot of applications but that ink just melted right off :happydance:
I'm working on several pen mark bags and this process is not working nearly as well on a red geometric bag. I guess red really does hang onto marks. I am also testing a theory that the LM stuff works better on well-hydrated bags. Back to the laboratory...
