It could be the natural color of the leather shining through. If that is the case then cleaner will make it worse. I've had good luck on white bags using zit cream (benzoyl peroxide 10%) and putting the bag in the sun. It is basically bleach. It turns them very white so if your bag is off-white, it might brighten it too much.

Thanks love. It's definitely some sort of stain. I will have to try the cream!

I hate when that happens! I didn't see it. It must have been when I was away from ebay although I've been looking off and on all day.

So annoying! I was having trouble with my PayPal password and had to go into my password manager to get it. While I was getting it, someone checked out ahead of me. I've been looking for a good deal on vintage navy blue bag.

Anyone use Brasso to restore the brass on your classic coach bag? I'm in the middle of my first rehab on a Willis bag. If I'm not mistaken there is a clear coat on the brass hardware for classic bags. At first I thought the Brasso was just taking off the clear coat on my brass as it start to look a little splotchy/uneven. Do I keep going with the Brasso or did I just Ruin the turn lock on my bag?

I believe it will remove the clear coating on the brass hardware, which is there to prevent tarnishing. If it is tarnished, the coating is probably starting to come off. Most of the bags I get are old enough to no longer have much of coating. At this point, you should probably continue with Brasso to make it even. I often use just vinegar if the tarnish isn't too bad. Sometimes I'll use fine steel wool to polish. Some here even use a Dremel tool to polish.

I always use Brasso. Keep going. It will polish up.

Ok good to know. The brass on my bag was spotted and turning a brownish color... Not a nice golden shiny gold/brass which is what I'd like to get to ideally. Using brasso won't change the hardware to silver right?

I do have a dremel perhaps it would make this process a little faster? Any dremel bit suggestions for this? Would I have to remove the hardware?

I'll also try to add a couple of pics. The image that has the little spots is before and the kind of uneven image is in process and right at the stage where I started doubting if I was doing the right thing by using Brasso.

It won't turn silver. The brass plating is pretty deep. I wouldn't polish a newer bag though. I've never used a dremel but those who do say it saves them lots of elbow grease. It is probably best if you remove the hardware if you are going to use the dremel. If you do remove it, try soaking it in a dish of vinegar for a little while before polishing.

I've started using Wenol and Flitz instead of Brasso.

I hope you can see the difference here. I used a Dremel and Metal Glo. I used a round white polishing head on most hardware and the round polishing brush on the zippers.

That looks amazing! It would take me a year to get that kind of sheen with q tips and cotton cloth.

Do you have photos of the the dremel heads you use or know the model numbers? I just checked out their site and there are tons of options under polishing and cleaning.

image.jpeg Hello everyone! I just bought an Essex 524 briefcase and want to give it a dunk but am worried about the middle divider. Not sure what it's made of but its not leather, seems to be nylon or something. Anyone know if this would be okay to get wet or should I not risk it? The inside of the bag is unlined raw leather.

It was amazing fast. The white soft heads turn black right away. I just kept going. The kit I picked up from Walmart. (My husband had the Dremel already.)
I used a little medicine cup for the polish paste. It worked well to load the paste.

Great! Thanks so much! I'll hopefully have time to pick these up tomorrow. I'll be sure to share my results
