Hey guys.....I am thinking about bidding on a vintage message bag, you know the saddle messanger bag with the tongue flap? I see one going for a decent price but there is damage to the piping. Does this look like something I could fix with the leather glue, acrylic, puff paint technique or does the structural damage look to far gone? These bags go from 80 to 200 bucks on ebay. I would most likely refurbish, wear for a year then sell it if I can get a slight profit.

Here are some photos from a rehab in progress. First one in 5 years (old school rehabber.....wonder if anyone remembers me? )
I forgot how enjoyable the process is.

This one was basic, verdigris, hardware cleaning, CPR and a good stuffing to shape.....plus legacy lining cleaning. I used dawn dish soap to remove oil based make up and red lipstick. Got this one for 16 bucks shipped. I am proud to wear it now....aside from the missing hang tag looks almost brand new.

It depends on how you want it to look. I've fixed bags like that with puff paint and leather cement, but the fix doesn't look as good as it did originally. When I look back on my original fixes, I'm sure I could do a better job now. If you want to do it right, you should replace the leather in that area.

Hello sisters!! I have a thrift store find to clean. It has metallic brocade, suede and haircalf. The metallic brocade on one side and the tan suede on the other seem to be the dirtiest patches. View attachment 3353944View attachment 3353945
I use my mild spray cleaner on nearly everything so I would use that on both the fabric and suede. I would leave the haircalf alone. It looks like there might be some color transfer on one of those suede patches. The metallic patch might need a touch of paint.

Thank you, Whateve!! What cleaner do you use? The tan suede does seem to have color transfer. It looks like green dirt. There is also white paint, or something, on the leather strip above. The stains on the brocade look like light grease staining or water. I removed stains from metallic brocade once before. Now to remember from what and how.

The cleaner I use is called Perfect Floral All Purpose Cleaner. I get it from the dollar store and dilute it with water. For something so cheap, it works amazingly well, and I love the smell.
