It works great!! The vachetta on my bag was dry and ashy looking after the vinegar scrub. Whateve suggested using Cadillac condition. Now the vachetta has it's warm glow back!! Unfortunately I didn't take a "before cadillac" picture. Hats to to Whateve!!

Very nice - looks new again! I can't believe there's a conditioner I don't have - will have look for a sub.

I am a bit late to the discussion about the Leather Refinish, but I wanted to add my opinion.

For vintage bags I admire the "vintage" part, I like to make them look better not like new again. Clean, condition and touch ups on the corners, clean brass, etc... is as much as I am comfortable doing it.

For new bags, it depends how much I like the bag and how much damage to it. I made a mess of a white crossbody using the acrylic paint and moisturizer, I should have used the LR instead, but I didn't know about it at the time. I have used it and I am very happy with the results on the corners and straps of a Parker. I had to mix shades to get close to the color (magenta and cream), not perfect as it was my first use of it, but I am happy. I used their Leather Refinish solution as well.

I know I am quoting myself, LOL

I just wanted to make a correction, the colors I used were Mauve and Cream. I didn't want to mislead anybody.

Wow that looks wonderful! Parkers are such great bags. I'm glad you were able to save it.

For some reason, I can't get Leather Refinisher to work on 2012 Legacy duffles. I'm having a terrible time getting my duffles rehabbed.
Looks great! I will keep this LR product in mind for my next venture....actually I already have one that I've been pondering what to do. (A DB bag that I dunked and the paint peeled off in places). I was surprised to say the least! I didn't dunk it for very long. Just long enough to rinse the fabric lining really well. As it was drying the paint started running down the lining so I had to keep cleaning the lining as it was drying to keep it from setting in! Now I have a patchy looking bag that I was considering trying to find the right color in acrylic and mixing it with CPR. It may be easier to find the right color in the LR and try that. Adventures in purse rehabbing!
I would never use the acrylic paint mixed with conditioner trick for any large areas. It only works for small areas like edges and corners, in my opinion.

Whateve, you are a genius (in case you didn't already know)! I had read the above so when I found a thrift store Dooney vachetta wallet today, I snatched it up. The vinegar and magic eraser worked so well in only 5 min. I have one little spot that needs more attention but it looks fab already! Bonus was it worked on the fabric, too. :urock:
Thanks for asking the question Soozlz.

:yahoo::happydance: I'm glad I could help.

I've been telling people I'm a genius but no one believes me!

Whateve:
Would you recommend the same for this E/W Duffle in Robin's Egg? I had considered selling it, but I really love this bag! If there's hope to make the corners look better (and prevent it from getting worse, if that's even possible) I would like to try... I'm afraid it might be tough to find a close color-match in leather dye or acrylic paint. How would I mix it with conditioner (the ratio)? And do you just dab it on multiple times? I would really appreciate your Rehab-Expertise please. Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I've had horrible results with Legacy leather. Everything I tried made it worse. Some people had good luck with coloring a Sharpie on wax paper and then using the wet ink to color their duffle corners. That didn't work for me. Neither did acrylic paint or Refinisher. I did dunk one in RIT dye and it worked great except it melted the edge coating and left brown stains everywhere! For another duffle, I'm going to try mixing up some RIT dye and painting it on the corners. So far, everything I've put on my duffle's corners just soaks in and makes it darker, like a water stain.
That looks fantastic!

Thank you!! I wish I had before pictures. It was so dirty. Remember the dirty smudged areas on the vachetta I asked about.....that was the whole bag. The white was grey. Lucky for me, no one could see past the dirt and the consignment store put it on the sale rack.

This is the kind of restoration that makes me want to cry. I've read about it on Sacs Magnifique blog, but have never seen a close up. Stitches are completely covered in LR just like the leather. Well, at least the seller is being honest about "using vegetable dye to restore the original beauty"...
That's terrible! I love those styles and they are fairly rare. It's a shame these bags were ruined.

I have a non-vintage bag in that camel color that I can't decide what to do on. It has a ton of ink and other stains. I was considering LR but I really don't like the way those bags look. It is really obvious and too shiny.

Its clean and new looking, but it looks like vinyl. If the stitches weren't coated It certainly be an improvement.

Thank you for your honest input! I guess I'm just going to deal with it then. Do you think conditioner will prevent it from getting worse? Or at least the better looking corners? Thanks again!

I think conditioner will help. I conditioned my duffles when I first got them. My duffles that I bought new still look great. The two duffles that look bad I got second hand on ebay.

whateve, good to know! I will definitely not go that route now. The bag is brown so I may be able to condition it and get the color more uniform just by doing that. I don't know. That is why I am still in the "pondering" phase. I don't want to recolor the whole bag and the areas where the paint came off are near the top. I've never had a problem like this before. I guess eventually you run into just about everything while restoring bags. :)
