I never took on any purse rehabs with a similar issue, but I did fix a belt that was coming apart. I got a matching thread color and sewed together using the same needle holes. I had to use a beading needle because the holes were small. To tie off and anchor the old thread, I had to unthread a couples of stitches and glued the end down between the layers. To start the repair, I glued the end of the new thread in the same spot as the old and came up in the same hole where old thread ended. Oh, I also doubled the thread. Hope this helps!!!

Thank you for the responses soozlz & whateve. I'll give home restitching a shot!

Ditto - I've dyed and over-dyed a lot of wool, cotton, silk and had to start thinking of each piece as 'one of a kind'!

Looks like you're getting good coverage and evenness. I'm surprised at the color, too, but you're not done yet so no worries. That is really too bad about the edging - ugh! I bet the solvents in the dye prep just dissolved the Dura Edge.

I'm learning a lot from your experience Almmac!

I'm glad you're learning something from me. I've learned a lot from you too! :smile1: I've been scrubbing at large iridescent patches all day with super fine steel wool. I've taken some before and after shots though I'm not done yet. I still have to get into the really small spaces on the seams and belt loops and even where the stitches have made indentations in the leather. Strangely enough, the purse is looking better after sanding. Most of the color has remained and it is just taking away those big oily looking spots. Thank you for the suggestion from your Kooba post! I just skipped over all the things I might have tried and went for the one thing you said would work, and it did! Amazingly well! :D

I forgot to mention, if you have to use beading needles keep in mind they are pretty flexible. Even using previously used holes I found the needle was bending a lot. Just work through each stitch slowly. Fingers crossed!!!

The ones I have are so ridiculously long too. Half of them are bent already and I don't think I've even used them all.

Hi ladies! I just completed my diy dye project of my coach crossbody. I'm not familiar with the style of the bag, I got it about 4 years about at a Coach outlet. It's definitely one of my favorites but even though I would condition the leather every once in a while, the color was coming off. So I took matters into my own hands [emoji4]

Wow, that is terrific! Great to know embossed leather will do just fine with dye. Thanks for posting!
