Oh good! It's nice to have a product you are comfortable with especially when working on new things.

Do you think the dark piping was a previous repair/replacement? It might be the repair work Coach used to do & I am thinking this could be the reason that specific piping is darker. It's a very neat look!

Yes, it could be from a previous replacement of the piping. The thread color matches the original thread almost perfectly, to my eye. But the stitch length shows some variations.

It looks good. I'm not sure you dunked it enough to get it soaked. Usually we like to let bags sit in the water until they are saturated. It opens up the pores so they will suck in the conditioner later. That is probably why it is drying so fast. It looks like you've reshaped it perfectly. One of my favorite things about these bags is how they hold their shape.

Yes, I was probably impatient and didn't leave it in the bath long enough to completely saturate. That makes sense.

I'm happy with the shape too; it totally changes the character of the bag!

I plan to do another application of conditioner today and will post final results.

Thanks for your insights and help!

My opinion on the piping discoloration is that it is probably almost always from a different hide. Like, the bag itself was probably often cut from one hide, but they probably had strips of piping prepared in various colors that they measured to fit the bags. It's also a little thinner piece of leather which would also make the color age a little differently.

Yes I've put way too much thought into this.

How is the Legacy rehab going? Looking forward to seeing after photos! Good luck!

Not another Legacy bag getting a bath! "Rehab rehab!":roflmfao:
I can see that bag cowering in fear! I just noticed that my Bridgit has corner wear. I never carry it; how could it get corner wear?

This is turning out to be almost too easy. Easiest one of the filthiest bags I've rehabbed, and I've worked on some doozies! But I dunked it last night and for some reason it's drying amazingly fast! Just put a coat of black rocks on and she's sitting out on the porch in the shade letting it soak in. Probably could carry her tomorrow but I'll probably put anther coat on tomorrow after work.

Oh yeah, forgot to ask what color your bridgit is. Vary remember which one you ended up keeping. My amethyst came with a little bit of lightened piping, but black rocks made it look better.

I agree. I have a NYC bag that has a similar two tone thing going on and I think it is more likely that the piping leather aged differently or took the dye differently rather than that the piping was replaced. This is something we see often on these older bags and not on 90s bags where it seems the colors were more uniform.

It's rose but I might be tempted to trade it for a teal!

So I got out my beloved Fossil Vintage Reissue tote last night and was dismayed to find a scratch on one of the sides! It wasn't all the way through the leather but I certainly noticed it! Thanks to my reading here and all of the lovely ladies who share their expertise, I was able to find some leather cement at my local craft store and now it's barely noticeable! Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who contributes here!

AFTER pics of my NYC Classic Pouch rehab, and lessons learned:

1. Soak longer to fully saturate.
2. Deep condition: try some Black Rock next time.

I do love this bag! Thanks to all here for their advice and comments. This is fun!

It looks beautiful! You should still buy some black rocks. I use it all the time on most of my bags, old and new.

Wow! I had no idea last weekend when I found that vintage 9170 Classic Pouch to rehab that the style would soon be "reborn" in the 75th Anniversary Saddle Bag lineup ... Those new colors are stunning! Thanks for the heads up, Tetondeb!
