I think the conditioner will eventually wear off the suede and it will revive if you do nothing. I've had this happen before and I've lightly sanded it.

Good to know I didn't do any permanent damage and that I won't have to repeat the whole process again (I get really impatient waiting for the bag to dry!). Did you just use some sandpaper? Thanks for your help!

Wow, that turned out great! I love the older Bleekr bags. Did this one have the striped satin legacy lining by any chance? I'm still on the fence about dunking mine - I've dunked others without issue, but it's the lining in this one that I'm worried about. (Then again, I looked at the lining in daylight this week and it really needs a good cleaning too). To dunk or not to dunk? I know myself and I'll probably end up dunking. Like a GlobetrotterI :D
The striped satin legacy lining is in the 2006 Legacy bags, not the 2007 Bleeckers. I don't think the Legacy bags are burnished leather like the Bleeckers. The satin lining is washable. Ledobe has dunked Legacy bags but I think even she wouldn't dunk unless the bag was in bad shape. Some of them are vachetta and won't come out of the bath better than they went in. For Legacy bags, I usually pull the lining out and wash it, taking care to keep the water off the leather. For the part of the lining near the leather, I use a mild spray cleaner so I won't have to rinse. Also, I try to keep water off the creed because they tend to swell and become unreadable.

Sandpaper will work fine. I have a sanding block.

Hi there rehabbers! Been looking for a bucket bag and found one that's more budget friendly:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Coach-BOHO-Beat-Up-Distressed-Destructed-Bucket-Bag-/151723852885?

The caveat is that it's definitely worn. Does anyone know if this can be salvaged at all? Or should I just pass and wait for something in a little better shape?

Thanks!!
Personally I wouldn't attempt this bag because of the strap....it looks like it has cuts in it and the whole bag looks thrashed. Could you make it look better...probably.....would it look good?
Probably not! Those huge stains would worry me too......it would be a good bag to practice re-habbing on but I'm not sure if you'll want to carry it afterwards!

Good luck deciding!

I'm pretty fearless when it comes to tackling tough bags, but even I would pass on this one. Those huge stains are ink! 😞

I'd pass on a bag in this condition. You can do a whole lot better. I recently purchased a large duffle sac on Ebay for $31.00 and it was in excellent condition, although the description said "visible wear throughout." Here's the item number of the auction in case you'd like to look at the bag I won. 221791075327 Keep looking, the perfect bag, at a great price will come to you!

Hey there! Anyone here ever clean one of these? The picture looks way better than in person. The wool is dingy, the suede is dirty, the lining is dirty. The leather is a bit dirty. ...she is adorable, but needs help. Thanks for your suggestions.

So cute! I have the matching wristlet except mine has blue suede trim. I wish I had the star charm.

I'd be afraid to dunk because the wool might shrink. I'd spot clean the wool. You can't scrub because it will make it pill. Use baking soda and water to clean the suede. The lining can be washed, of course.

Ok, thanks! I'll see if maybe I can find a wool cleaner to spray on maybe. It's dingy. I have few I'm working on, but this one is so fun! Can't wait to make her pretty again.

So, I'm trying to learn as much as I can about leather, because I thought it would be fun to rehab damaged purses.

I have a couple of issues that I am working on right now with a couple of different purses, and I need some advice.

So I stopped by a shop called Tandy Leather, (stupidly) thinking that they just give me some guidance and suggest products to use.

Has anyone else here heard of Tandy Leather?

Yes. What did they tell you? I looked for leather dye there but all their dyes are too shiny. I think it is a good place to buy scrap leather.

Even very experienced leather workers aren't familiar with our methods. I met a leather worker who raved about a particular conditioner that I didn't think was anything special. He had never heard of washing leather.

I left feeling very foolish.

First, I went to the gal at the counter. She looked like a deer in the headlights when I told her I was working on a couple of Coach purses. That should have been my first clue.

I have two purses - I told her that with one of the purses, I just needed some added luster because the leather is so dull, it reminds me of black tire rubber.

I told her about my other purse where I removed a pen ink spot with hairspray (I know, gasp!), but then ended up with a bigger stain to deal with. I told her that I used a Meltionian spray called Nu Life Color Spray to touch up the spot, and the color now is dead on, but it left a shiny area where the hairspray spot was. I was hoping to get something to even out the shine.

She really didn't want to deal with me after I said "Coach purses" I could tell. I asked her if I could show her, so I went to grab the bags out of my car, and when I came back in, the manager, I presume, was watching me, and when I went to show the girl my bags, it was obvious that she had clearly been instructed to tell me that she couldn't help me or offer any advice.

So, I drove down the street to a shoe repair shop and got something that might help, but I'm not sure. It would have been nice to have an expert opinion, rather for me to play trial and error.

I asked at Tandy if there was anything that would reduce the shininess and I was told no. I think it is easier to find something to add shine than something to reduce shine. What did you get at the shoe repair shop? Let us know if it works.

I got a can of "Ralyn Shine 2000" and it's supped to add shine to leather. I tried a light coat on the black bag, but I really can't tell if it made a difference. I might try it again.
