I found an inexpensive product that can be used to touch up worn plating on coach metal. It probably wouldn't last very long on something like a turnlock knob that you touch all the time, but I am happy with the results on a piece of my coach jewelry, see link below. It's called Rub N Buff and I used the Gold Leaf color.

Thanks. It might work really well on some of the hardware that can't be removed like Seridans and Madisons and on the old kisslocks.

Hello ladies, not a frequent visitor as I would like but when I find the time I still rehab. :smile1:

This time I want to ask your advice regarding this pretty color Carlyle, that I would like to improve if possible. As you see in the pictures the leather on the bottom front seems to have been stretched. In a regular (soft leather) bag I would dunk it with no second thought, but in this one I am not sure, specially because I do not want the brown lining to get red. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I have dunked Madisons with no problems and the dye doesn't bleed so it should be fine.

Total newbie here, though I've enjoyed following this thread for some time now. You've inspired me to try rehabbing a couple of my older Coach bags (after experimenting on a wristlet that turned out fabulous thanks to all of your great advice!).

The bag I really need some advice/help with is an old favorite of mine, the Coach Leigh Legacy in Whiskey - identical to this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-LEGACY-Leigh-Brown-Whiskey-Soft-Leather-Tote-Purse-Satchel-11128-/400940871147?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d59f02deb

My problems are similar to the bag in this listing with the antiqued hardware. Green oxidation is everywhere - 'oozing' out from underneath the brass and I dont know what to do to stop it (and, what the heck is it anyway...eeew!). I've scraped away as much as I can from all the nooks and crannies and wiped the whole bag down with diluted Simple Green (because it was covered in a faint frosting of white mildew - no doubt a result from a recent move from Naples, FL to Houston and 3 days in a moving van...sigh/cry). Unfortunately the leather has some darker, almost burnished spots where the hardware has rested on it, and I've found a few little flecks of the green gunk embedded in the beautiful legacy striped satin lining. I love this bag though and I'm determined to bring her back to life :smile1: Has anyone ever dunked one of these? I'm more worried about the lining than the leather if I were to dunk her. She has a much darker patina than the bag shown in the pic. Any advice? Thanks Ladies!

Here's a pic of the bag identical to mine. I can see where her leather has darkened and greened around the hardware as mine has - except my bag looks worse I think. Ugh. I can post some pics of mine tomorrow.

Hi everyone! Total newbie here. I'm working on my first rehab, a basic black station bag. I'm super excited and nervous. The bag has been dunked and is drying though I wasn't able to pry off the turnlock. (It's on so tight, it wouldn't come loose even with a knife!) I want to polish the hardware with brasso, like just about everyone has suggested. However, when I went to buy a bottle on amazon, the rating from the reviews have gone down, with most people saying how the formulation has changed. Anyone have any ideas about this or suggestions of what to buy instead? Thanks in advance!

I've used Brasso on a few of my bags successfully. Does a great job of removing tarnish and adding gleam back to your hardware...unless it's brass plated. Not sure what to use on brass plating. Good luck!

If that bag's creed is 3195-786, I'm pretty sure its previous owner dunked and stuffed that bag, and that was the best it would come out.

If that is not bag 3195-786, here are before and after pictures of that bag to give you an idea of how dunking and stuffing a bag in that condition might turn out:
