This 2008 Hamptons Signature XL Tote #F13063 was just filthy on the outside, yet remarkably clean on the inside and the leather trim looked brand new. At only $14.99 I figured I could try to make some improvements. Before pics are here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-818914-534.html#post25729664

On the back, there was some sticky stuff...gum, candy, who knows! I gently soaked the spots with alcohol using a q-tip and eventually got the gooey stuff to roll up. I did the same thing to other spots all over the bag.

Then she went into a warm sudsy Dawn bath in the kitchen sink (this is a BIG bag, she barely fit in the sink!). After a good soak, I started scrubbing with Soilove and a toothbrush. Soilove is amazing! It took several applications and a fair amount of scrubbing, but this bag is clean once again. After a good rinse, stuff and leather CPR 2X on the trim and straps, she’s ready to go.
Great job on both bags Joodlz.

Wow, that's terrible! I called last week and asked for two turnlocks. She had a little trouble understanding the serial number of one of the bags, since it was pre-1994, even when I gave her the real style number. She led me to believe that I would get them. Did you call during normal business hours? The people who answer the phones after hours aren't trained. Have you bought things directly from Coach before? I'm in their system because I buy a lot at both FP and the outlet. I also asked for a dustbag and she said she would add it to the order. I hope I really get them. About a year ago, I requested a few hangtags and I never got them, although at other times they sent them. I think there is a limit on how many hangtags you can request.
I called on Friday at 4:30, so maybe it was after hours. I have never bought directly from coach, I have bought all vintage from ebay and etsy. I haven't ever requested a hangtag or a turnlock. I know I'm in the customer database, last year I dropped off a bag for repair at the FP store at the mall. It was a sonoma pocket shopper that needed a zipper repair. I paid twenty dollars for the repair. I received the bag back about 3 weeks later unrepaired with a discount coupon for a new bag. I called customer service to ask why they couldn't repair the zipper. A very helpful rep explained that if the repair dept couldn't repair the bag "to it's original condition" that they wouldn't repair it. She offered to send me my twenty dollars back and said if I brought the bag to a local cobbler and had it repaired they would pay for it. I had the bag repaired for 17 dollars and sent a copy of the bill to customer service. They refunded that also. Sadly, the zipper repair lasted one day. I returned it to my local cobbler, who repaired it again. This repair also wasn't right as the zipper closes now at the start, but is open at the other end. So I still can't use one of my favorite bags. I won't go back to my local cobbler a third time, I guess I need to drive further to get it repaired. I didn't know coach had untrained reps, but the rep I talked to about the turnlocks certainly seemed untrained. She didn't even know what a turnlock was! So I'll make sure to call during the morning on Monday.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I also sent a bag in to have the zipper repaired and they sent it back without repairing it. I didn't get the discount coupon. Mine was a basic bag. They still make the style so I don't know why they wouldn't have been able to put in a new zipper. As someone who sews, I know that it is more difficult to put a zipper into a finished piece than to put it in during construction, so that could be why they didn't repair it. I figured that the bag was so old they figured it wasn't worth their time.

Good luck when you call back.

This little Straw Wristlet #42529 came from Goodwill for $4.99. Overall great condition, but the metallic leather flower had some rolled-up petals.

Using a q-tip and plain water, I wet the suede side of the petals. I placed it face down on a couple layers of terry cloth towel to cushion it and put a ceramic cup on top of a couple layers of terry towel to weigh it down. I let it sit over night and the petals have flatened out nicely. Easy fix...check out the before and afters.
Great idea! I was wondering how you were going to fix this.

I got a package today from Coach. I was hoping it was the turnlocks but it turned out to be the dustbag I had asked for. I'm hoping the turnlocks come from a different department and I'll still get them.

I asked for a hang tag, the customer service rep was great. He asked me, rather hesitantly for the style number, which I had. He said wow, that is a older one, I said , yes, I love it! It is a wonderful bag. I was in the database, he had my shipping address on hand. It took so long, two weeks, I thought I had been forgotten. Finally it arrived, just as promised.
Hopefully your turn locks will show up too.:smile1:
I am curious, are you able to buy dustbags? Or did you just ask for one?

You can't buy dustbags. My situation was unique. I had bought a lime duffle from my store and it came with a dustbag. A few weeks later, the emerald duffle showed up on Coach.com so I bought it. It was the last one in the warehouse and didn't come with a dustbag. When I returned the lime, I explained that I wanted to keep the dustbag for the emerald but they wouldn't let me. I explained all this to the rep and she was able to see that I had ordered it recently. I think in the past you might have been able to get a dustbag at a Coach store, but I don't think they are doing this anymore.

I bought a dustbag once for $1 at a thrift store.

Did you get a leather hangtag? Lately it seems like they are only sending out metal ones.

I'm so excited! My gorgeous navy blue double kisslock arrived today! I have coveted this style since I first discovered Coach and got up at 4:00am to bid on this little beauty and got myself an early Christmas present. She is in really good condition. I love the 'B' on each of the hinges and 'bead chain ' on the hang tag. The seller wasn't even aware of these features until I pointed them out when I messaged her to thank her for fast postage and a great deal.

Now for my dilemma. How do I rehab her? She's a bit dry so definitely needs some leather therapy, but do I dare give her a bath first? Will it damage the metal work or the inside base which appears to be made of something other than leather?

Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I've dunked this style before. I was very careful but I'm not sure it was necessary. She held up fine. I kept the stiffened parts stable through the drying process, but it was truly uneventful. I took it easy on the soap and rinsed it well. I didn't soak it long, just enough to moisten the leather.

Mine was red and it did bleed into the water but didn't appear faded when dried.

It's been awhile but if I recall correctly I just stuffed the middle section while it dried and opened the kiss locks.

I wouldn't dunk unless absolutely necessary. I would just condition her a lot. The metal isn't solid brass. It is plated. On mine, a lot of the brass plating is gone.

I got a very nice leather hangtag.
I wish I could get some dustbags for my vintage finds....
I may have to sew some.:thinkin:I really hate to pay $10-15 for generic ones.
