Hello all! After a deep dive into the older posts, I’d love to hear current thoughts/experiences on color match for British Tan. This is to improve smaller areas of fading — eg to touch up stain removal, wear-lightened areas, deep scuffs — not allover dyeing.

Meltonian Shoe Cream Polish (the polish that isn’t shoe polish) in “London Tan”? Saphir Juvacuir Recolorant?

On Juvacuir, there have been some color discrepancies in the past — I think it was decided that Medium Brown 37 is actually darker, a match to Mahogany, after @Lake Effect ’s initial success (mismarked bottle or formula change). But it also appears some have had continued success with 37 on BT. Mixed reports. I’m very curious if anyone has used a different Juvacuir color they liked on BT since then?

I have 3 BT beauties in queue! TIA for input!

On Obenauf’s… This is just an excerpt from their website I thought others might also find useful/interesting…

“What kind of oils or what is in your products that cause them to be rated superior?
Answer: Both of our preservatives contain a blend of Natural Oils, Propolis, and Beeswax.
Leather Oil: a liquid version with the same ingredients but, a different ratio of beeswax and Propolis to oil.
Heavy Duty LP: is in a cream form that is a time release formula wherein the natural oils are suspended in the wax and Propolis and gradually seep out over a long period. If the leather gets warmed or flexed the oils get released faster so leather is protected against parching and premature cracking due to flexing while dehydrated.”

Because I forgot to take before” photos, here are my AFTER photos of a Mahogany City (9790) bag, brass hardware, circa 2000. It had been sitting in my rehab pile for quite some time, and I’m back on a roll with cleaning up that backlog.

It unfortunately does have some ink damage but with it being a dark brown, it isn’t super obvious at first… plus it’s not visible on front flap/front panel. I love the size of this purse and have been waffling back and forth on if I will sell it or keep it. I’m going to transfer my stuff to this purse and carry it for the week to help me decide. I’m not sure if the ink stains would bother me or not, so we will see if I notice them or forget about them.

Hi there!

I have had success with Saphir Creme Renovatrice in 10 Cognac. It's quite opaque, so I mixed it with a bit of leather CPR, and worked in layers.

I would suggest this method for corners that don't resolve with regular conditioning, or perhaps to camouflage a bad stain - I would not put it on an entire bag. The colour is the best match I could find for the BT bag I was trying to match. I hope that helps!

Thank you, @nursebetty ! Really helpful! I was considering both the cognac color in Juvacuir and the Renovatrice for corners. Great to know they work so well.

I've used the Saphir Medaille D'or 1925 in Cognac and it's fantastic for edges and surface scratches. It's more sheer and a little easier to apply than the Juvacuir and I haven't used the Renovatrice. That said, if you don't like it, you can generally saddle soap it off, and it does not color transfer otherwise. You can also mix it with the neutral (Incolore). I like to apply, buff and let dry 24 hours before putting any other products on top. The only thing I would add is that there is BT and BT - some is more flat and others are more orange. This products leans more orange (and is sheer) and can give a gorgeous glow to BT with patina.

Ordered Meltonian in London Tan this weekend bc it was fast and cheap from Amzn. Haven’t tried it yet but for reference, here’s a pic of the jar in direct sunlight against my in-progress 80s British Tan Swagger. Looks good! (Those white marks are reflections from the jar and lid. None of them are there IRL.) I really want to try the Juvacuir though. And I have a feeling a mix of 37 Med Brown + 10 Cognac + CPR would be perfect… but it’s expensive! And I’ve blown past my product budget in the name of science… 😬

ETA: Ton of Meltonian colors discounted on Amzn rn — got this full size jar for under $9 and Prime shipping!

Thank you! I hadn’t even considered that product yet. Super helpful! Two votes for Cognac…

Busy bag day in squeakville… I promised awhile back I would post after pics of the Little 2000 Camel Small Hippie Flap That Could, after finishing the Furniture Clinic Leather Degreaser massive stain removals.

I’m still very pleased with the results. I did 7-8 apps all in. It now passes the ‘would I wear it’ test where before it was a lost cause or onward to dark dye. But I did learn two important caveats.

One, the product does not play well with oil-based treatment afterward. I used Leather Therapy R&C after bc she’s still so very dry, and the de-stained areas came up dark and dirty looking. So I redunked, and re-degreased, which helped. Two, with deeply embedded very old grease stains like hers (you can see the shadow from the back), when you recondition the bag after degreaser, even with CPR, more of the stain may rise back to the top.

I’m happy with where she is now, in terms of stains. But after what has to be a bottle of CPR throughout the weeks (jk, but seriously, a LOT), bag is still dry and especially strap. Contemplating Leather Honey to moisturize, darken, and push the patina — or stick with sponge-heated Renapur. Welcome votes! ☺️

ETA: Prior pics are at Post #44,142 and 44,128. Sorry, it won’t let me edit to add links!

I would be afraid the Leather Honey would make the stains look a lot worse. I've used Leather Honey on bags that were fairly even in color only to have them look very blotchy. I don't know if there is any thing you can use to moisturize that won't bring those stains back.

Very helpful, indeed… hmmm… then maybe Renapur, without heating, as a finisher as it’s more waxy than BR…

Hello, I am new to this forum and to Coach bags. The first bag I attempted to renovate before Christmas (a white Soho) ended up in the bin. It is summer holiday season here so I have time to play around. After watching a few (too few!) videos I tried to buy product, but nothing on recommended lists was available to me locally and what I could find online would not arrive until mid January. I was so desperate to try I followed the advice of the Art Supply shop. That's a long story, but it was an absolute disaster.

I didn't have high expectations for the White Soho when I purchased it cheaply, specifically for the project. I hoped for a good result, but didn't really think I would be successful enough to get to a point where it would be a usable bag for me. Knowing what I know now, with the correct product I think I would be walking around with a nice Soho for summer. It is amazing how much you can learn in a short period of time through forums like this, Facebook groups and videos and I am grateful to everyone who contributes.

Having gone down the Coach rabbit hole I had already ordered a Red City Bag and a Black Willis. I live in Western Australia and ordered Juvacuir off the Amazon France site (as it wasn't listed on the Australian site). Delivery for the Juvacuir from France was 5 days from time of purchase - it takes longer to get things delivered within Australia, so I was thrilled.

As I have nothing to compare with, I can't say whether I've done a good job or not, but I am very happy with the results. I found the Juvacuir very easy to apply. I used a makeup sponge applying a little bit at a time and rubbing it in. (I did order 5 colours, in anticipation of future projects)

Thank you and welcome!!! I joined the forum only several months ago myself and it is a fantastic group of people. The time, input and support everyone shares freely — especially our OGs and rehab rockstars — is AMAZING. Glad you’re here! Share some pics of your bags!

As the Kiwi in the forum...I understand shipping woes intimately.

I try and get the large CPR conditioner when I can get enough to get the free shipping on Anazon. Sometimes going half with another friend her in NZ. Have you thought of that?
Maybe there's another Coachie is Aussie that you can talk to?
