See the staining on the bottom. The whole bottom was painted.20240918_133345.jpg
And here you can see the line where I stopped the paint stripper.

It's still wet so will post a photo when it dries.
I've CPRrd between working.

Hopefully someone here can offer a suggestion. My Elderberry Sonoma Double Zip Nubuc 4941 has a tear on the loop sewn to the bag that also holds the strap. I have a local cobbler I've used a couple of times with mediocre results and I think this project is out of his realm of expertise. It would either need an entirely new piece of Nubuc to replace the torn piece to hold the ring or a "cut and pull tighter" type fix to be resewn. Also, because of the lining and the bag being a double zip, getting inside the lining to replace or repair the loop might be near impossible and a lot more expensive fix.

My current options seem to be: either donate or sell "as is" OR use a suitable glue product. Considering how much weight that loop has to support, would the right glue product even do the trick? Or would glue/cement be too visible?

Thanks for any input!
You might also consider a rivet placed above the stitches but below the ring, to hold that torn leather and give support.

I will screenshot and remove names from the the thread. I had watched a lot of vintage coach collector on youtube who I thought was great. To me, the draw of the unlined leather is that you can wash and reshape and the bag is never really ruined unless it gets paint, ink, cat pee or something on it that cannot be removed.

Now I cannot find it. The lady had posted a screenshot, but yeah, now I cannot locate it. However, I thought the group's admin's name looked familiar and it is an individual with history here, so now I am really questioning many things in that group.

Also, I was really upset there was drama with vintage coach collector and that person and if that is why she isn't posting any more you tubes, I am sad. I loved her videos. That's all I will say about that. I may remain just to look at the pretty bags.

Here's a document written by Coach. It describes running a bag under water in the sink and rinsing until "soaking wet" and shaping it like a sweater. Basically, a dunk.

One time only I had trouble: a Mexican no-brand hand tooled ancient leather purse which disintegrated when submerged. Stunk up the whole room like dead animal. I've dunked dozens and dozens of Coach bags...never a problem (except the possibility of an ink spill spreading).
Thank you for providing that. I think I am going to go with what Coach said is ok for the bags. I do not think you can get around a gross bag and a wash.

You guys are great! Thank you!

A very minimal rehab here. I had this strap from a thrifting outing...stuck it on the bag to replace the corroded one. I don't "love" the strap but the bag is going to be for sale, so someone might like it. I did leather CPR. And I also used edgekote along one area.

Hello, I just started collecting vintage coach bags, and I’m still a newbie with bag rehab things. I got this large framed pouch bag from a garage sale, and I’m a bit worried about the strap condition. I’m wondering if it’s normal. Can I do anything to ‘fix’ it? Thank you in advance!

Maybe leather glue the pieces and enforce with a couple of stitches from behind ? Or do something artistic ? I sometimes look at Coach reloved and they do stuff to their bags, which are not original, then hahah charge a mint :)

Your bag is really nice! I've had the same situation on bags I've worked on. Here're my thoughts: I'd trim any loose threads with a toenail scissors... And then tuck any loose leather pieces in and use Aileen's leather glue to glue back into their proper place. It dries clear and offers great strength because that area gets a alot of tugging. I hold things in place while drying with a binder clip or bobby pin.

Trying out this product for the first time on a very worn Ritchie bag. We'll see how it does. First application. 3 of the 4 corners are ripped.

Any idea what type or brand to use?
Something artistic? I'm not artsy in any way so that wouldn't be an option for me.
