What is the paint stripper you are using?See the staining on the bottom. The whole bottom was painted.View attachment 6063373
And here you can see the line where I stopped the paint stripper.

It's still wet so will post a photo when it dries.
I've CPRrd between working.
You might also consider a rivet placed above the stitches but below the ring, to hold that torn leather and give support.Hopefully someone here can offer a suggestion. My Elderberry Sonoma Double Zip Nubuc 4941 has a tear on the loop sewn to the bag that also holds the strap. I have a local cobbler I've used a couple of times with mediocre results and I think this project is out of his realm of expertise. It would either need an entirely new piece of Nubuc to replace the torn piece to hold the ring or a "cut and pull tighter" type fix to be resewn. Also, because of the lining and the bag being a double zip, getting inside the lining to replace or repair the loop might be near impossible and a lot more expensive fix.
My current options seem to be: either donate or sell "as is" OR use a suitable glue product. Considering how much weight that loop has to support, would the right glue product even do the trick? Or would glue/cement be too visible?
Thanks for any input!
I am wondering what the paint was covering, assuming it was intentional. The bottom in dry now...big difference.
I'm feeling more confident.
I've run out of cotton pads so will continue tommorrow when I get more.View attachment 6063435
I will screenshot and remove names from the the thread. I had watched a lot of vintage coach collector on youtube who I thought was great. To me, the draw of the unlined leather is that you can wash and reshape and the bag is never really ruined unless it gets paint, ink, cat pee or something on it that cannot be removed.
Thank you for providing that. I think I am going to go with what Coach said is ok for the bags. I do not think you can get around a gross bag and a wash. Here's a document written by Coach. It describes running a bag under water in the sink and rinsing until "soaking wet" and shaping it like a sweater. Basically, a dunk.
One time only I had trouble: a Mexican no-brand hand tooled ancient leather purse which disintegrated when submerged. Stunk up the whole room like dead animal. I've dunked dozens and dozens of Coach bags...never a problem (except the possibility of an ink spill spreading).
Maybe leather glue the pieces and enforce with a couple of stitches from behind ? Or do something artistic ? I sometimes look at Coach reloved and they do stuff to their bags, which are not original, then hahah charge a mintHopefully someone here can offer a suggestion. Your bag is really nice! I've had the same situation on bags I've worked on. Here're my thoughts: I'd trim any loose threads with a toenail scissors...Hello, I just started collecting vintage coach bags, and I’m still a newbie with bag rehab things. I got this large framed pouch bag from a garage sale, and I’m a bit worried about the strap condition. I’m wondering if it’s normal. Can I do anything to ‘fix’ it? Thank you in advance!
