I DID IT! I became a dunker, lol! I took the plunge today and plunged my sparkly elephant courier. I can't even begin to tell you how gross the water was. She is now stuffed and drying. Dunking brought out a glued section that I hadn't noticed before, but it also got rid of the leftover adhesive from the elephant.

I haven't had a chance to steam my Carlyle (hubby keeps "surprising" me with days off), but I'm planning on getting to it tomorrow.

At my DH's flute lesson right now, but I'll be back later when I can multi-quote!

Thanks for inspiring me my Coachie friends!
Yay! Once you see how dirty that water is, you wonder why you didn't start dunking a long time ago!

Please, I need some help from expert rehabbers about what to do next!
I started working on my Vista on Oct 4. I was devastated when she arrived covered in what appeared to be paint. I used non-acetone nail polish remover to remove as much as I could, then realised that she had also been re-dyed at some stage so I used Rit dye remover followed by acetone and numerous baths. It was then apparent that she had been dre-dyed because she had a number of darkened patches (patina?) on the top of the flap and the front. I used extra fine steelwool all over, then lots of Leather Therapy, brushing in between coats and sunbathing to attempt to even out the patina. (I think I may have overdone the LT as she feels a bit waxy - any suggestions about that, please?). So this is where I'm at now. I think she looks better than when she arrived covered in paint, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do. Inside the pockets she is still tan but outside she is darker, almost brown, distressed looking with darkened patina'd areas. The bottom and back outside pockets are , in my opinion, 'perfect' but its not consistent all over. Do I just re-dye her? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. There are more pics in drop box. The first 5 are before shots.

I always heard that putting leather in the sun will darken it. As far as the waxiness, the only thing I can think of is to clean it again. It's likely that as time goes by, the LT will absorb and the waxiness with disappear. I don't think you'll ever get the color uniform without redyeing. It really depends on whether you will carry her the way she is. I kind of like the patina.

Sadly I find it's looking very dry still, uniform compared to before but dry. And I'm also noticing a lot of wrinkling. Any advice? I only have leather CPR if I order blackrock and not get it for another month (I don't live in the US) would that be okay?

I think it looks gorgeous! Just keep using the CPR. I've used other products on very dry leather - mink oil, Leather Honey and Skidmore's. There might be a product available locally that would work. I don't have a cure for wrinkling.

Anyone had any success cleaning the twill bags trimmed with leather? I found these two cuties yesterday, and they're just generally dirty, no real stains. I'm concerned about dunking them because of shrinkage and dye bleeding. I tried spot cleaning a similar bag, and screwed it up, but it had some chocolate stains. I'll appreciate any comments!

Hi Katherine! I'm not a super-experienced rehabber like most of the wonderful gals here, but I did dunk a tote just like your red one (mine had light blue leather trim). I had problems with the piping under the colored leather. The color wicked into the fabric on either side of the straps. I washed it a couple of times before I finally figured out what was going on, then I realized I needed to dry the strap areas asap. I used a heat gun, but you could probably use a blow dryer. The tricky part is the slip pocket on the front because there are so many layers. Good luck!

I've dunked several lined bags and had no problems. I don't know how Coach treats their fabrics not to bleed, but I haven't had an issue.

Thanks ledobe!

I forgot to take a before picture, but this one was a pretty easy rehab. I basically just needed to give this Logan Bag a bath to reshape then a couple coats of Lexol and some Blackrocks to shine up. The prior owner clearly took very good care of this bag - I didn't even have to polish the brass. I love the size and shape.

She is so pretty!

It feels good doesn't it, absolutely amazing how dirty the water can be when the bag looks clean.

I was shocked, especially because it was a nasty green!

Yay! Once you see how dirty that water is, you wonder why you didn't start dunking a long time ago!

whateve, you are so right!

Thanks whateve, I'm seeing some old rehabs and thinking am I doing it right?
Do I just keep applying a layer until it looks nourished?
Any mink oil recommendations?

Just looked up the leather honey and skidmores too I'll just out this on over the current layers of leather cpr no problem? Gonna see what I can find locally.

Thanks Whateve. I definitely prefer her now to the way she was with paint and dye. I think I'll try some more sunbathing. I left her out for a while today and the waxiness seems to have decreased. I'm waiting for my Blackrock to arrive - hopefully it hasn't got stopped in customs, it's been a while since it was shipped.....

Looks great to me! I don't have a lot of rehab experience yet, but I learned here to let the bag sit for 12-24 hours after each application of conditioner, and that really seemed to work better. I'm working on the same bag in black trimmed with tabac.

Thanks for the quick dry tip Becca! I haven't done anything with that bag yet, I know I'll need a stretch of uninterrupted time to keep an eye on it. Otherwise, I might forget that it's soaking. I'm easily sidetracked.
