I think sanding may help if you have a lacquered Brass - it will take off the worn lacquer. Otherwise I wouldn't see a need and would be concerned I'd scratch the brass or the surrounding leather.

I just polished up brass connectors on a Dooney with my trusty Simichrome polish and they came out fantastic! (I have the SimiChrome forwhen I'm rehabbing pencil sharpeners - but I digress) my other favorite metal polish is Nevr-Dull, which is a fiber wadding (cotton?) that has been impregnated with polish. Both are readily available on Amazon.
I don’t sand, but 0000 steel wool is very helpful in getting off old lacquer and layers of tarnish. Doesn’t scratch.

On this topic - what does one do with bags that have paper/cardboard stiffeners sewn in? Is dunking a problem here? I saw an online post of a Court rehab that went wrong - the reinforced bottom of the bag did not turn out well.
I've never had a problem with any of them. I've dunked several courts. I've even forgotten bags and left them to soak for over an hour. The only problem I ever had was the handles on a slim satchel that had a hole in the stitching. The handle got kind of mushy because the water got inside. I've dunked other bags with those kind of handles without a problem.

Thanks. What other conditioners do you use if you don't mind sharing? After arriving here I got Apple conditioner, Chamberlains leather milk (no 1), Leather Therapy, Leather Honey, plus Black Rocks, Obenaufs and Renapur but my experience with all these products is limited. I don't really know which to use for what. I also have/have also tried Angeles mink oil compound on some black bags. Sorry, a lot of questions!
I’ve used Leather Therapy, Leather Honey, Chamberlains, Lexol, and a few others. Each situation will dictate what’s needed. I like the Leather Therapy (used sparingly) for dry bags but I never use it on lighter colors. Chamberlains left a film so I stopped using it. I’ve heard good things about Apple but haven’t ever used it.

I have Met-all brass and copper polish as well as Wenol - but they don't seem to take off all of the heavy tarnish on the turnlocks from the 90's bags I have which need rehabbing. I am waiting on Blue Magic - I saw rave reviews for using it on Coach brassware on You-tube. The first batch I ordered went astray in the mail :confused1: so I have reordered. I will report on it when I receive it, hopefully this weekend.

Hi guys, I am rehabbing this briefcase now - has anyone actually tried to lightly sand the brass as Debbie says to do? I know, Debbie is not always right but I have used brasso and while it improved the brass, it isn't as bright as y'all seem to accomplish......

Nice find - that looks a lot like a Wall Street Briefcase which retailed in '92 for $406.

Tried the Kiwi leather dye on an old British tan hangtag that was totally messed up when I tried to dye it navy with aniline dye. It's now a solid black - Love! Love! Love!

Me again - has anyone ever dunked a Berkeley bag? Did it turn out well? Any special procedure for this type of bag? Thanks.
Yep, you rehab it just like any other leather bag except you don't condition the suede. You can use conditioner on the smooth leather on the inside. Brush the suede after it dries.

Hi everyone ! I purchased a tea rose rogue that the fixed handle had come off. I am pretty sure it is an easy fix, but wondering if I should just do it myself or send it in to Coach to be repaired? I know I will have to get new rivets, but I think that should be it. Anyone had any experience with this type issue ? Thanks so much !
