If you will allow me some unsolicited advice. Don't listen to Debbie! I did and regret it immensely. Look through this thread for guidance and ask questions. They are all amazing.I’m finished with my very first purse rehab. (The only thing I didn’t do was slightly ‘sand’ down the hardware, as Debi the Restorer does in her video. I felt my bravery hit a high at submerging a leather bag. I’m okay with that, lol.) Unfortunately, the lighting isn’t the best right now for picture taking, so you cannot really see how much this beauty just shines.
As soon as I bought this bag (for $13 at GW), I knew I would be fixing it for my oldest daughter who, as her gf says, loves everything Coach and vintage, although I know this isn’t old enough to be vintage, lol. Today is my girl’s 32nd birthday and it’s done. There was no hang tag, so I’m still looking for one. I didn’t have a custom one made just for her, though.
The best part of this rehab so far was seeing that Coach had this exact bag on the reLove tab two weeks ago for $500-600. The next best part will be seeing her face.
I would like to thank all of the experienced rehabbers who freely share all their advice, tips and tricks of the trade they’ve learned. My girl is gonna LOVE this.

Thanks! I appreciate all advice!Super glue won't allow the leather to bend.
It smells a bit but it gives a good bond and is flexible. I use it all the time to glue split hangtags back together. The brush is a bit unwieldy - I often use toothpicks for finer applications.Thank you! I will!ETA: I just ordered some. Looks dangerous, but I'll be careful and read the instructions.

Hello, also in Los Angeles - our water is hard, but I haven't had any stiff bags (unless the bag is structured that way) Do you think there is any soap residue in the bag from the dunk? I generally use dawn dish soap in warmish water, and then vinegar in the rinse, and start conditioning while the bag is damp. If it is a very dry bag you may need to increase the number of applications of CPR. I have also used leather therapy conditioner for very dry bags that need more TLC.Hi everyone,
I needed some advice in post dunking. I've dunked a few bags now and am not happy with the way the leather turns out post dunk! It feels stiff and unyielding. I have tried conditioning with leather CPR and BR leather 'n' rich even before the leather is dry but the bag still dries “stiff” and the softness of the leather is lost. I live in Los Angeles - could the water be a contributing problem? How many treatments of conditioner & Black Rocks are needed? Do I need other products as well?
The water could be a problem if it is hard. I don't think LA water is bad. I know there was a rehabber in Florida who used to collect rainwater for her rehabs. You can soften the leather by brushing the inside suede, either with a stiff brush or a sanding block.Hi everyone,

No ma’am, no paint or dye at all! I was in the process of ordering some red and brown dye to try to match the color on the edging if I needed to. Once I saw how well the color came back after the first dunk, I took the dye out of my online cart. My plan was that dyeing would be the last resort, since I wanted to make her shine without losing the character of her whole life story.I think that is a Janice's legacy bag and those are from 1996... so it is old enough to be vintage.....
Did you use any paint or coloring on the edges and corners? I have some dried edges on some of my bags... haven't tried to rehab those yet
She did love it! I’m so happy. Now I jut have to find a Chanel for my Sis-in-law to rehab.@MrsFord04 wow!! It looks so good! And I love the bright custom tag. Your daughter will love this bag for sure!!
I need to watch some restoration videos. I tried my first dunk this weekend. I think the previous owner used shoe polish because it keeps leaking/leeching out into the water.
I will definitely take that advice. If you will allow me some unsolicited advice. Don't listen to Debbie! I did and regret it immensely. Look through this thread for guidance and ask questions. They are all amazing.![]()
I know this is a serious situation, however, my first thought was:Sooooo here comes NIGHTMARE AT THE PLAZA! I bought this bag off depop, I’d already started the dunk when I should have been attempting to get my money back, but here I am. I have never rehabbed a bag before. Basically, this poor bag has been painted. The listing pictures and even closeup of the creed showed no paint, but when it arrived holy smokes! I have one photo of the creed upon arrival that shows the paint and how pretty much the bag looked, now I’m in the middle of a blood bath dunk and scrub fiasco. Appreciate any advice as I don’t know wtf I’m doing. Poor bag!
