Btw, anyone else use Cadillac Select conditioner? I use it alternately with Leather CPR (as in, 1 coat of CPR, then a coat of Cadillac, repeat) because I feel like it just sinks in like butter on warm toast, and I don't have to use a sponge with it. I love both conditioners equally though. Just curious.

Ooo this sparks another tangent, sorry: how does everyone apply their various conditioners?

I've tried most methods: cloth, sponge, brush, fingers, cotton ball (don't ask - shoe polish), q-tip!

I prefer fingers or brush for the liquid-y conditioners and fingers or sponges for balsams. When using my fingers, I swipe it on in a circular motion, working on small areas at a time.

I use an old toddler toothbrush to apply CPR (and remove with a cloth), a cloth to apply leather therapy, and my fingers for Obenauf’s Heavy Duty LP and Blackrocks. I used to use a sponge for CPR, but I think that wasted a lot more conditioner than using a brush!

CPR with fingers...wipe off with makeup sponge
Renupur with the supplied sponges.

What do you guys mean you're wiping CPR off?!

I have one in natural. I love it! She was a thirsty girl too and drank up the conditioner. I can't remember now how many coats I applied, but it was a lot!

I see ya'll talking about Renapur. I think I'm going to have to try it. I use BR and Obenauf's LP (which I really like, especially with heat applied). I feel like Obenauf's creates a really good final protective layer over BR. I can get a good amount of shine with Obenauf's too. The trick for me is to use it VERY sparingly. And I don't like how BR spreads, as in it doesn't very well. This is an unpopular opinion, I realize ;)

Anyway, tangent...

CPR and Blackrock are all I've tried so far(and one bag I tried mink oil on.) I am going to try and get some Leather Therapy this weekend as @katev suggested. I thought about buying Obenaufs in the past, but I read something that made me decide not to. I can't exactly remember, but maybe that it darkens? I am getting curious about Renapur, too.

I use my fingers for everything :shrugs:
I rub in CPR with my hands and never wipe, unless I put too much. I feel like if I put too much at a time it gets a waxy feel and cakes up under the piping. I wipe excess BR with a paper towel as instructed.

Unrelated but one of my BT casinos has an excessively dark top handle from oil staining (I think) and is very thin and 'flattened' compared to the normal state. Also even though it's been dunked and reshaped, it's misshapen easily. It doesn't 'bounce back' into form and just moulds itself to whichever way you put it in. eBay listing photograph below showing the stain that covers the entire
handle:

That is weird. It’s like whatever permeated the leather handle softened it so much it can’t hold a decent shape. I’ve never encountered this. Usually the handle is off to one side until I either dunk and shape it or “re-train” it.

Since I work often work on bags that are very distressed or dry, I will apply CPR and wait 10 min or so and wipe off any visible excess or any thing that looks like it was not absorbed with a paper towel or thin cloth. On these bags, I am usually more generous in my initial apps of CPR. My Travel Tote, which I can update on this weekend, had mostly dried after the third app.
On a bag in better condition, I apply CPR a bit more sparingly and wipe off any visible excess after a few minutes.

I use CS as a maintenance conditioner and generally not part of the rehab process.

Sometimes it is just a mystery. The use or the storage of the bag is a mystery, as is the origin of the piece of leather. Since the piece of leather is unique, while Coach had a quality grade, I wonder if it just could have been the the texture of piece of cowhide. Or a combination of the above.
The scars, scratches, veins, wrinkles . . .

I put it on pretty thick, let it soak in for awhile, then wipe away the excess with a cloth. I guess if you are working it in and there is no excess, you don't have to wipe it off.

What's the reason for this method? I would try it but my CPR cost an arm and a leg to get to me so I'm using it super sparingly:shocked:

It works for me
eta I want to apply enough to hydrate the bag, but would rather do it in evenly applied apps. Sometimes I misjudge how much I apply to an area of the bag, sometimes an area of a bag is not as dry as another.

I use sponges for CPR. I used to use my fingers, but I experimentally tried a sponge, and it seemed to soak in better. I use a a little at a time, really rubbing it in, so I don't have to wipe excess. For everything else, I use my fingers, circularly in small patches at a time. A baby toothbrush is brilliant tho!

I apply conditioner really soon after dunking too and then again before the bag is completely dry. Makes a world of difference. I tried an experiment last time and put it on immediately after toweling the bags down. They're still drying. It'll be interesting to see if it works even better.

I just did a buckle bag, btw. Most interesting reshaping it. I used clips on the top to train the leather to fold in like it used to. I hope it works!

It’s in the directions on the bottle! First couple bags I used CPR with, I just rubbed it in since that’s what I’ve always done with conditioner. Then I read the back of the bottle and decided to try following the directions:lol: I feel like the leather gets more conditioned using this method. I usually only use this method when the bag is wet after a bath or if I’m cleaning something off of a dry bag.
