Is there a big difference between using Resolene on the corners as opposed to acrylic paint + CPR? I've seen both used on here with great results.

Im not sure, I haven’t tried the acrylic paint with cpr method yet. I know the resolene gets its colour from leather dye, so It works well to re dye edges as the colour penetrates well. Im not sure acrylic paint would penetrate as well, but someone who has actually used that method can hopefully comment on if the paint flakes off or fades over time. i find once the resolene has been brushed on, its pretty permanent. Hope this helps

eta: for very heavy colour loss, resolene would not work because it would require multiple layers to cover the damage and it will just turn into a rubbery mess. It really only seems good for faded colour, not total colour loss

Thanks, that's helpful! I'm most likely going to be using paint + CPR soon on a navy bag with pretty bad fading so it sounds like that'll work just fine. Hopefully one day I'll get some Resolene and be able to compare both methods.

Would anyone be interested in a thread that is devoted to people sharing a picture of their ENTIRE vintage Coach collection? Maybe we can call it, "Post Your Complete Vintage Collection in One Photo", or something like that. Even if we had to do a panoramic shot, I think it would be cool just to see everyone's full collection. What do y'all think?

ETA: Was meant for Vintage Coach Photos and Chat thread. Sorry. Will post there.

It is a huge problem! There is so much temptation! I bought a purse the other day because I couldn't resist the cheap price. Actually, I've bought quite a few for that same reason.
Could yours be sandstone? As shown on the convertible clutch in that ad?

I'm happy to post my most recent rehab. I scored this NYC Convertible Clutch on the hopes of a new rehab project after the wonderful Authenticators helped confirm the style and authenticity (thanks Whateve). It was incredibly dry with a pen mark on top that I think looks a bit lighter but not great. I'm still waiting for the Blackrocks to dry and buff, plus the "jewelry" needs a polish when I can finally procure some Brasso. I dunked, multiple upon multiple coats of CPR, and Blackrocks to finish.

After reading the threads, I'm wondering if the color is Sandstone color?

(While I was out this week I found a Costa Rican relative of the rehabber from I believe 2001. I love the adjustable strap on the newer version. Included in the picture just for fun - the leather is SO soft and my first purse from Costa Rica)

NYC bags didn't come in sandstone (that was a color in later years), I think your bag is putty!

Have you tried this with other colors? I’m confused by what Resolene really does. I thought it was just an acrylic layer that you put on top to seal in the dye. Does it move the dye around, is that how it becomes black again?

edit. Okay, I see Resolene comes in several colors! Oops. I thought it only came in a clear/neutral... that’s why I was confused by this. Darn! I was hoping it was the magic solution to not having to color match if there is color loss on piping or other places... haha!

Haha if it was like a chameleon and matched itself to every colour, this thread would probably keep it on backorder forever haha. Its supposed to be a waterproof coating for leather but the main ingredient is leather dye which is why it works well with fading

eta: It eliminates the need to buy separate leather dye and it dries fast and stays put. Ive only tried black, not sure if their other colours would match vintage coach very well!

Yes, that totally makes sense. I didn’t think it was chameleon but I thought maybe it lifted or moved the dye from the surrounding areas to fill the color loss areas, haha. I have a good imagination. I was like how does it work if Resolene is clear and has no color?! Anyway, I just contributed a useless post or two on this thread, my bad.

My classic shoulder bag arrived this weekend! I can’t wait to dunk her. I wanted to ask, she has a couple of loose stitches on the bottom. The middle seam is solid and I don’t think it’s going to come apart, but would you do anything with the loose bits?

No you didn't CPSE! I've learned a lot from your questions and the responses you received! Thank you!

I can’t tell you how many times someone posted a question I also had! Sometimes I search topics and see multiple questions and get a lot of info from the variety of answers too.

Congratulations on your new bag! I agree that the loose threads are not structural. If the thread is long enough, can you poke it back inside the bag? Otherwise, I would probably clip.
