This Rambler has been a very interesting rehab. I dunked it around 4:00 yesterday afternoon and it's now just after 6:00am and the bag is almost completely dry. I have already put 3 coats of CPR on it because it was drying so fast and the CPR was soaking in as quickly as I could rub it in. I got my wish, I did ask for a quick dry but wow, this was something else! My Plaza, Ranch, and Court took days to dry. It looks like two light spots and a few scratches turned up on the flap after the dunk but I am totally ok with it. I will be able to carry this bag to work on Monday and I am SO EXCITED!! Pics are before and after the dunk...

Nice find! I've rehabbed 3 or 4 vintage coach briefcases, none as old as your Dad's, but they all came out pretty well.

Considering the condition that it's in, I'd give it a bath and a scrubbing, stuff it and shape it, condition it and finish with Black Rocks, and then polish the hardware.

As an example, below are before and after pics of a black Lexington Briefcase that I rehabbed. It's from the 1990's so not as old as your bag but it was in pretty bad shape and it was improved by rehabbing IMO. Good luck!

Thank you and to @Lothruin . Your examples are stunning! Nice work! Do you ever condition before you dunk?

Progress update....so the bag is drying out, I've put some CPR on and some tumble dryer sheets in for the smell. It's actually loads better already but I've ordered some active carbon bags to put in to help. She's a beautiful shape already and stands all by herself now, this is such satisfying work! I'm really enjoying restoring my first vintage bag. Thank you so much for all your hints and tips, and pics it was very inspiring.

I am not sure what colors were available during the xxx-xxxx non-style serial numbers phase, but my guess was mocha. The sunlight really turns it ruddy, but in more subdued lighting it is a rich dark brown.

It can be very hard to tell the difference between Tabac and Mocha! The lighting makes a huge difference.

Hi everyone, so I recently found a small plaza bag in black. I conditioned it and used brasso to clean the turnlocks but accidentally got some on the leather and it left a white stain on the bag that I can't seem to remove, any suggestions? When it got on the leather I immediately wiped it off but it didnt help. I have CPR conditioner on the way but not sure if something else can remove it?

Try cleaning it with vinegar. The CPR will probably help but it is best if you get it off as soon as possible.

It looks beautiful! I wonder why it dried so fast. I washed a Patricia a few days ago and it is still wet inside. It took 2 1/2 days before the outside dried enough to start conditioning.

It is stunning, and I don't see as any dot or spot stands out.

Thank you! I am really surprised how fast it dried. The leather feels thinner on this bag than any of my other vintage bags. And the temp was in the 60's last night with no humidity and I had a small fan blowing on the bag. I'm sure that helped but I also had the same fan blowing on the other three I just rehabbed and they took several days to completely dry. I'm not complaining though, I'm very glad I decided to dunk and I'm very excited to carry it to work.
