Hello! Just finished cleaning/conditioning this 90s backpack, which came out quite nicely, except for the split handtag. Can they be repaired or glued? Can new ones be purchased? Thanks in advance!
You can glue the hangtag back together with Fiebings Leather Cement. You also might be able to get a free silver or brass tag directly from Coach. Or you can go to a Coach outlet and ask if they have any hangtags without bags. Or you can shop for one on ebay.

Thanks so much for all your suggestions!! I’m going to head over to the outlet and see what trouble I can get into!

@Busykitty I've been trying to figure out a reliable way to remove turnlocks, and am happy to see your posts about this!

I've looked on Amazon, and can't figure out what kind of blue tool you're using.
Would you be able to post a picture of the blue tool, and/or link to the listing where you purchased it from?

And maybe link to the orange tool, too? (I think I've found something like that on Amazon, but not positive.)

Sorry if you've answered this already!
Sorry, just seeing this. I got the blue one from my cousin but found them on Walmart.

And here’s the orange ones on amazon. Several different outfits sell the same group of four tools.

You will want to sharpen them as needed. They do get chewed up after a while. Again, my cousin does this on his rotary belt for me in his shop but could be done by hand with some sandpaper.
Good luck!!

I bought a 3 pack of Renapur on eBay and it arrived a few days ago. None of the jars had a safety seal on them and they don't come with the sponges but I got 3 jars for $28. The seller has another set of 3 for sale: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/233471898386

When you buy these new on Amazon or wherever do they have a safety seal? I'm not terribly worried about it because it isn't food but it does make me wonder where the seller got them and why they're so cheap. I'm going to try it soon, I'm waiting for my next project bag to arrive.
No safety seal on mine from amazon, but I’m seeing on eBay they make a lavender scented version! I’m kinda intrigued!

I always prefer to keep the original hangtag when I have one, they glue together easily with fabric or leather glue. I only try to get a replacement hangtag when the original is lost.
Thank you so much. I will obtain the suggested leather glue, and glue it back together. I went to the Coach Outlet, and they kindly gave me a brass and two other red ones to try! They said they keep them when bags are sent back for defects, and are happy to give them to customers. Greatly appreciate people’s suggestions on this thread!

Yay! Glad they helped you!

I have a hardware question I'm hoping you can help me with. From what I've learned here, some vintage Coach have solid brass hardware, and some have brass that has a coating on it. This coating can deteriorate over time but can he buffed off? Is all of that correct?
If so, how can I know which hardware I have? I am refurbishing a City bag in particular that I would love to polish up but only if it won't damage the hardware. Before photos:20200307_183206.jpg 20200307_183259.jpg

Most likely it isn't solid brass. You can usually tell solid brass as it is very heavy. City bags aren't that old. Once part of the coating comes off it is best to try to polish it all off. The brass plating goes deep enough on these that I've never polished down to the base metal.

Thanks, Whateve! Do you have a recommended polishing method?
