Why do they do that...can you do anything at all to remove the paint?
I bought a painted red legacy zip. A really hot, long bath and the paint came off in whole sheets! Kinda like a bad sunburn. I kept thinking I should have taken pictures of the process but I was too excited/ panicked. I actually kept one of the sheets of paint.

There's someone who actually does paint bags with actual wall paint and thinks nothing of it! I forget who it was but I tried as she suggested and the paint was horrible for touch ups. I gave up instantly as it wouldn't blend in at all and there was no way to make it look uniform unless the whole bag was painted. I saw how it left a film of coat on the corner and wiped it off. I didn't like it at all.

Wow, house paint?? I've painted lesser bags with acrylic leather paint, but on old Coaches, it's just not necessary. Sometimes I use a little Meltonian or Saphir, but not paint. Well, I'll let it dry and see if I think it's worth salvaging...

Whoa! Maybe I'll try that. Can't hurt : D

My taupe Prairie bag was painted gray! I think they used acrylic paint. I decided to keep it and strip the paint off instead of return it. I use acetone with a wash cloth, which was taking so long that I decided to just give it a hot bath after my arms felt like they were going to fall off. I was able to rub off the majority of the paint during the bath using another washcloth. I took the rest off with acetone and a washcloths while it was wet. I think it turned out well, but it was definitely a long process!

The wallet in the picture is painted the same color that my purse was before rehab.

Omg, ladies. I got an old City bag in British tan, not super rare or anything but a cute, roomy bag nonetheless. Pretty beat up. I soaked it....

It's PAINTED. Someone painted it. It's completely worthless.   So sad!
Whhhaaaa?? I know there are less than stellar dye jobs to be found, but paint??

Yup straight up paint from the paint store is what she suggested.
Oh that had to be before I began lurking and then joined. I would have remembered that!!

Hello everyone, I'm contemplating this bag, the overall look doesn't phase me, I like a vintage bag to be worn/imperfect, but am wondering if there is any way to rescue the edges. It looks like it's torn/peeled at the very bottom corners. Here are some pics to show the area. I've read about people using acrylic craft paint on edges, but is that just to recolor? Is there a product people have used to sort of fill in and reshape a completely split/peeled edge? Thanks all!

The torn leather piping goes around a curve and there's large hole. It would be a difficult repair.

I've used leather cement and acrylic paint to fill and paint over small holes (described here):
