It may not have been spew. Could it have been mold? I'm pretty sure I already tried alcohol on my bag but I'll try it again.
I did the hairdryer trick on an area and it went away. Also, it felt very waxy. Of course I forgot to take photos but the leather looked hazy almost all over the outside.

I have come across mold before and that felt (and smelled) differently. I’m just glad it’s gone, whatever it was!

Let us know. I have a gorgeous Black Stewardess that has it. It always comes back after several weeks. I’d like to try the alcohol first before forking over the $ for the remover to use only once.
What % rubbing alcohol did you use?

Did it work? Fingers crossed...

It said 90 or 91%, I believe. I can check when I get home tonight. I’m hoping it doesn’t come back; didn’t even think that might happen! [emoji22]

My alcohol is 70%. I've also tried vinegar. My bag is very vintage and the leather is really dry. The white is still there. It is mostly along the seams and on a few other areas. I don't know what to moisturize with that won't make the white worse. I think I may have caused it by using either mink oil or Obenaufs LP.

Hi all--I know this is not quite the right thread for questions about Dooney & Bourke bags, but it seems like the D&B rehab thread hasn't really taken off. Since I've already received such wonderful advice about rehabbing my vintage Coach bags here, I thought I might try my question.

I've been in love with D&B AWL bags in the bone color forever, but was always too nervous because white bags are hard to care for. I recently took the plunge and purchased my dream bag:
https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m17640256670/

The seller let me know that she has only used Coach cleaner on it. I'm curious if anyone has advice on how to keep it clean? I've used Appleguard on several leather bags to protect them but from what others have said across TPF, it looks like AWL bags shouldn't be treated with anything. I also don't want to put additional products on it knowing that it's already been treated with the Coach cleaner, which seems like a no-no already. What do you think?

I would condition it with Blackrock Leather n Rich. It will protect it and help keep the leather from losing color. I'm sure I've done that with my Dooneys. If you are worried about Coach cleaner, you can wipe it down with vinegar first. I don't think there is a problem with Coach cleaner. It is the conditioner that is bad, although the newest version might not be.

I agree with whateve, a very light coat of Blackrock is all you need. That bag is gorgeous!

Anyone dunked a vintage Dakota before? I am afraid to wash it so I just vacuumed inside and conditioned the surface. Now it's feels usable. View attachment 4164220

It looks a lot better. I don't think I dunked mine but I remember cleaning the suede with Lincoln EZ cleaner.

I agree, it's noticeably improved!

I haven't dunked a Dakota. I vacuumed inside then cleaned inside and out with vinegar on a terry cloth washcloth. I used a light coat of Blackrock on the outside, buffed briefly when dry with a horsehair brush.

Thanks so much, whateve! I really appreciate your advice :-)
Do you also apply Blackrock to Dooneys made from other leathers like Patterson? I'm thinking of getting my mom the Patterson Leather Aimee Drawstring for her birthday and would condition it for her as well.
