Both seem to get the job done, but wait for KateV. I prefer the Woolite, mostly because of the smell though. :smile1:

I use both, it depends where I am washing the bag. I have Ivory handy in the kitchen and Woolite in the basement. I use Ivory most often but they both work well.

You may want to put that purse with the 552-5522 number aside, and maybe post photos at the Authenticate thread. I don't remember seeing it before, but fakes makers often used that kind of repetative number in classic fakes. Meanwhile I'll keep it on my Watch list.

Thanks Hyacinth, I'll do that when it arrives! Appreciate it.

Hey there! So I decided to test a couple leather conditioners, and I figured what better way to do it than on a pair of boots - same leather, same finish, same dyes, etc. I figured it would be a nice way to see the differences between the conditioners themselves without worrying about the differences in the pieces being conditioned.

So I present to you - Leather CPR vs Leather Honey - the "before" pics. Please note that these are my boots, Eddie Bauer leather boots bought at a thrift shop for about $20. :)

So I applied one coat each of Leather CPR (right boot) and Leather Honey (left boot) and took photos during and after the application. As you can see, the Leather Honey definitely darkened the leather. It also took longer to soak in and didn't have as shiny a finish afterwards as the Leather CPR. However, I did feel like it conditioned a bit better, though I really liked both products. Probably the boots would benefit from a few more applications of conditioner, as you can still see a lot of scuffs and marks on them. I ended up doing a quick coat of Leather Honey on the right boot after these pix, as I wanted to even out the color a bit (and wear them!). Overall - the boots were lovely before, they're lovely after, but I think for very dry leather the Leather Honey will probably be my favorite, though the CPR is much easier/faster/cleaner to use for more usual jobs.

Very smart! Do you think the CPR actually cleaned the leather? When i used the Leather Honey, i dont see much cleaning improvement, just good conditioning. I applied it to some super dried out and cracked vachetta leather, and its still dark. Hmmmm. Thanks for showing your results!

You know, I don't think it cleaned the leather much if at all but I'd already cleaned it with Lexol so I'm not sure it's a fair test of the CPR's cleaning abilities. I'm certainly curious about that though as I've read mixed reviews online.

As far as the Leather Honey goes, I know they say the color should lighten over time but I'd be concerned with lighter leathers if you don't want to darken them. I plan to use it on a bone purse I'm working on as I don't really care for the color anyway, should be an interesting experiment.

I'm curious about how people get out so many marks and scuffs with just a bath and conditioning - my boots look better but still marked after the leather conditioner. Do you think I should try additional coats?

I do often put on many coats of Leather CPR...over time.... I just love the gleamy "glowey" look that happens if you get it conditioned enough. Great tutorial, jinmon, thank you!

Just feeling sorry for myself and I wanted to say hi! I have been in the beautiful cayman islands for a week but it has been raining most of the time. I brought my Ladybug boxy tote but I haven't used her much due to the weather. We are here for another week so keep your fingers crossed that the weather will improve!

Hope the weather improves for you Kate! At least you still have another week--we had snow here yesterday in New York! Winter definitely came in a hurry. Sending sunny thoughts your way:p

I hope the weather improves. I saw one of those totes the other day on ebay and thought of you, but the price went higher than I'd be able to pay. Super cute though but you need SUNSHINE to show her off. Enjoy the rest of your trip!!

Thanks, I know I shouldn't complain, I am lucky to be having a nice vacation with my husband in a beautiful place; but we planned this trip last March and it seems like I've been waiting for it forever. Today is our wedding anniversary and right now the sun is shining so I hope it is a good omen for more nice weather. Sorry that the snow came so early to the folks in the Northeast - stay warm!

No more feeling sorry for me! The Cayman weather has been perfect since Saturday and my Boxy Ladybug Tote has had lots of opportunities to shine!

When do you know if you should bathe a bag versus just apple conditioning it? I scored 2 vintage bags at the thrift store and the leather feels really soft but BOTH are scuffed. Can you mess a bag up by bathing it?

assuming they are both unlined with no holes or worn through areas on the leather, they are probably ok to give a bath to. I've chosen to skip the bath on only my bright red bag to avoid any color loss, but others on here have bathed the reds with no problem so I could have also. If done with cool or barely warm temperature and woolite or gentle detergent, you shouldn't have any problem at all.
