O_o Who knew leather could melt!? Maybe it's a good thing I like beaten-up bags with character; I was never good with an iron, either!

That looks MUCH better. I had one or two project bags I decided to wash twice to get the remaining stains out. Did the red stains below one of the interior pockets come out too? What IS it with people and uncapped pens??

Baby steps. I haven't tackled the other parts yet.

Coach VB, have you tried the tide to go pen and the mini Oxi-spray? That does wonders on the legacy lining and I bet it will help with tattersall too. If that spot is make up, try cleaning with very light application of dish soap on a damp white wash cloth. That helps with oil based stains.

Any advice for getting "dents" or "impressions" out of leather?

I am currently working to rehab a Legacy Zip and it is coming out well; but the front of the bag has a few impressed dents in the leather. The leather isn't ripped but it looks like that part of the bag was "resting against something pointy" for ages in storage. You can see the dents in the picture below, on the left side of the front pocket.

While it was in the bath I massaged the dents with my fingers from both inside and out, and I massaged them some more while conditioning the bag. The marks are a little less noticable now but they are still there.

I guess it's not a big deal but I am thinking of giving this bag as a gift so I would like to eliminate the dents if possible.

So please share any good tricks for removing or minimizing indentations from leather? TIA!

Normally the only way to fix "dents" is to put a lot of pressure on that area with a weighted item.

If you can find a way to balance the bag so you aren't pressing a heavy object against the entire thing that would work. Or one of those industrial wood shop adjustable clamps with wood blocks on either side with some good pressure would work.

Didn't know that, thanks!

i can't do a rescue from the local salvation army because the prices they charge for their no-so-gently used coach purses are waaayyy higher than the new ones at the outlet. what are they thinking?

Sounds like around here. I bet they're banking on the name brand to carry them through the price tag. I often wonder at how long some of those things have been sitting there (with their high price tags.)

I agree that the SA sometimes prices their beat-up and even fake bags much too high; but they do have a half-price sale for a price tag color each week.

I think that they hope that the bag will sell at the original high price but if it doesn't they will probably get the 50% price when the specific color tag goes on sale.

The most that I have spent for a bag at the SA was $45, that's more than I like to spend on rehab projects but I felt it was worth it.

Searching the thread and sub-forum wasn't helpful, so I'm sorry if this has already been asked and answered!

I bought my niece the poppy petal print bags & accessories for her graduation, she's now asking me how to clean them. That fabric isn't like any Coach I own, so I haven't been too helpful. She said she already tried baby wipes with no luck.

I told her to try a Tide pen or a Magic Eraser on a hidden place, but if that doesn't work, does anyone have any suggestions?

Does she still have the care cards? That might be helpful information, or you could call JAX and ask for advice.

I would probably start by spot-testing with Coach Fabric Cleaner. It's pretty good stuff and even though this isn't jacquard fabric, it may work.

If spot cleaning doesn't work I would be tempted to try hand-washing in woolite and cold water. I would probably test it first by washing and drying a smaller items (like a wristlet) to see how it comes out.

If you do manage to get the items clean again you should spray them with something like Apple Garde to try and keep them clean. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the suggestions, katev! I'll pass them along - the girl in question is a 19 year old who is not too particular where she throws her stuff, so God only knows what may be on it!

I get my stuff from a Goodwill outlet. These are the Goodwill stores where everything is sold by the pound. I have to date found FOUR classic Coaches at the Goodwill outlet where I shop, plus an authentic Dooney. For 69c a pound! Can't beat that with a stick!!!

Wow, that is cheap, I wish my goodwill priced things that way!

Anyone cleaned a bag that has or smells of mildew? Leather with nice lining, I'm fine if I have to screw up the lining to fix it.

I have worked on unlined mildewed bags twice but never on a lined bag. One rehab was successful but the other was not - the mildew came back with a vengence after it got wet.

I have read suggestions to freeze the bag for awhile before washing it and/or to use non-bleach lysol to treat the mildew before washing it. But I am not sure that either method will work.

I would probably try lysol first but if the bleach starts to grow back then I would use a 10% bleach solution - but it could ruin the bag. I would apply the bleach solution quickly and rinse immediately and then repeat several times and then rinse really well. You might try using a hair dryer to dry the lining quickly to try and prevent the mildew from growing.

To make a 10% bleach solution you mix one part bleach to 9 parts water (for example, 1 cup clorox and 9 cups water.)

Be sure to put some of the water into the container first, before you add the bleach as a safety precaution. In the lab they always taught us to "add acid to water" to avoid getting splashed in the eyes with straight acid (bleach is a dilute hydrochloric acid.)

I don't know if this helps, tell us what you do and how it works out, good luck!
