COACH Hall of Shame - Post Coach fakes here!

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

I bought this one off of ThredUP for $25, and immediately thought the leather looked wrong. Then the creed ‍♀️ "Compiftfiy" is a new one to me . Add it to the pile of proof that they don't even try to authenticate their bags.

PLEASE DON'T REPORT OR RETURN THIS BAG.

This is one of the very rare examples of a genuine style with spelling errors in the creed. We've seen others of the same style from the same plant and all made within months of each other and all with outlet stamps.

Please be careful what you post in this particular thread since it's for reporting confirmed fakes and we don't want anything reported if there's a possibility that it's actually authentic. Ask in the Authenticate This Coach thread before reporting it in the Hall Of Shame.

A forum Search shows more than a dozen other posts about the same mistake, and the concensus is that the bags are genuine:

It's one of the Girlie Bag styles from 2001-02 and may have been made for the Factory Stores.

Found my first fake Coach purse in the wild. Was posted on OfferUp app.
If you are in Houston TX area, it was posted by seller “Sabri” with the following description:
“Authentic coach bag (check tags)
Real leather
* This is a vintage item so there is some light waring if the leather
Re- sales for $180… selling for $100”

The giveaway was the creed on the inside. Hard to read, but said “Made In Korea”, and the serial number was not real as well (did not have No. in the front and wrong format). The backplate of the turn lock also has “coach” emblazoned on it with screws instead of small metal flanges… I have yet to see that on true vintage bags. (I’m not sure if they do that with new bags.) Regardless, the “Made in Korea” is my main giveaway that the bag is fake.

seller thequintessentialbaglady

Lot listing priced at $699. There are at least 2 very obvious fakes. Not all bags have necessary pictures so there could be other fakes in the lot.

These are the "at least 2" fakes.

I posted this in the wrong thread before, I apologize. I am just so disgusted this obvious fake comes with this bogus COA. I'm hoping there's power in numbers and something can be done about getting it removed from Mercari where it's currently listed for $500!! It was on ebay for $300 but has been removed. Wondering if anyone knows what can be done about this crap authentication company too? I mean, there's even a misspelling on the COA itself. How much more unprofessional can this company be??

The saddest part is that it's NOT a bogus authentication, i.e., it's not a forged copy. I believe that RA Real Authentication DID deem this POS a genuine!

Maybe with enough reports, Mercari will remove it. (Has anyone contacted the seller to let her know that her "authentication company" doesn't know Coach?)

BTW, do you recall the seller ID who had it listed on Ebay?

I believe she went under the same name but I'm not 100% sure. It was removed fairly quickly. And yes I contacted the seller and I'm blocked now cause even though I rattled off a laundry list of concrete proof this was fake, I'm an idiot & the bag has been proven real by that forged piece of paper.

@BeenBurned also this was previously removed but the seller "authenticated" through Mercari & it's been reinstated. A reinstated listing takes many, many more reports to get another removal and one that has an in house authentication may not be able to get removed at all unfortunately. The only thing I'm hopeful for is that even the real version of this bag isn't worth $500.

For those who know Dooney, this is another fake from the same seller:

I'm going to make a comment - STRICTLY MY PERSONAL OPINION. I don't believe tPF members should get a "Get out of jail free" card when it comes to listing fakes. If one of them makes a mistake and lists a fake, they should accept responsibility and learn from the experience.

And the "Leather vintage willis station top handle" IS fake, absolutely no doubt about it. While it was still active I also looked at that listing with a stamped serial number "D2J-5130" and a creed stamp that clearly says "It was handcrafted in the United States...". That serial prefix has been listed BY ME for well over a decade in my Daria48 Fake Coach Numbers list here and previously at Ebay's now-defunct Guides and Reviews section and also in their previous Clothing and Accessories forum, which is no longer archived by Ebay.

The Daria48 Fake Numbers List states:
"D2J- serial number prefixes whenever they're part of a creed stamp that says the bag was made in the US. That code sequence was ONLY used for bags made in a Chinese plant, never an American one. And ALL serial prefixes with J as the third digit and a "Made in the US" creed need to be carefully authenticated, since the "J" plant in the US originally made only clothing items."

"Since 1999 the J plant was ONLY used by a Chinese plant and should NEVER be found in any bags with creeds saying they were made in the USA."

Using tPF's own Search feature and searching for "Coach serial D2J" I've found 2 pages of links to posts here that mention that serial number prefix and the well-researched, proven fact that when used with a Made in the Us creed, it ALWAYS indicates a fake bag. There's no reason a tPF member can't find plenty of information on that always-FAKE serial prefix.

We've put a TON of important information on this site that's available not only to all tPF members but most of it is also available to the general public. The responsibility of determining that their items are genuine, and the onus of listing a fake, is ON THE SELLER. The information is just a few keystrokes away. They don't even have to leave tPF to find it.

I’m new to the forum (hi!) and have been perusing through the authentication threads to compare images to items for sale on eBay, Mercari, Poshmark, etc.
I’ve noticed several bags authenticated by Real Authenticator that seemed to me to be fake.
Real Authenticator says uses AI and then 2+ people review and confirm the AI’s work.

The Real Authenticator says they use AI to evaluate photos of the purses and then those results are reviewed by 2+ human authenticators.
Unfortunately, the way AI works is fallible. If the AI makes a mistake and passes a fake indicator as authentic, but the human authenticators don’t catch it and don’t correct the mistake made by the AI, the AI will continue making the same mistake and eventually replace the authentic indicator with fake indicator.
For example: the AI has a database of indicators to help identify bags as authentic. If the AI passes the zipper pull of a fake purse, and the humans don’t correct it, it will add the fake zipper pull to its list of authentic indicators. If it happens enough, over time, the AI would replace enough of the authentic indicators with fake indicators resulting in the AI no longer recognizing authentic indicators as authentic.
I’m starting to suspect that, perhaps, The Real Authenticator AI is passing fake bags as authentic, and it’s not being caught by the human authenticators.

This is just my own speculation based on what I’ve seen in a very short time of research, so I could be way off base. \_O_/
