COACH Hall of Shame - Post Coach fakes here!

Poshmark seller Tempost is selling a very obvious fake for 100 dollars. The listing pics even include the horribly mispelled "Made in Korea" creed and obvious fake serial number. Listing below, but adding pics in case it gets pulled (it's poshmark so fat chance but still) as it is hall of shame worthy:

Don't hold your breath waiting for Poshmark or its sellers to voluntarily to the right thing and end listings of counterfeit items. :annoyed:

Am I missing something? The creed isn't legible, there's no serial number shown or described and I'm not certain it's fake.

May I ask why you think or how you know it's fake?
The zipper slider is black and the area where the strap is attached to the bag has a wrong shape... Also, as for the model, doesn't it look like a hybrid of small sidepack and scooter bag?

I haven't reported it yet, just posted here... If I'm wrong, I won't report it.

Thanks for reminding me about the listing link and seller ID. Here it is:

I should have known better when the ONLY photo of ONLY one of the creed/serial numbers is blurry and illegible in this listing. All 3 serial #'s begin with J8Y.

We would have warned you against buying those without having any clear creed pics, but with experience, other problems are there too. The colors don't look right and Coach has never made any classic styles in Pink or pinkish-red although there have been fakes in that color, the straps all look thin and cheap and not at all like genuine Coach leather, the listing description under "Product Line" says Coach 9870 which is a Court Bag, NOT a Patricia's Legacy, the silver hardware is unusual especially with those colors, at least one of the hangtags is an obvious fake, and the colors of the insides of the fakes don't look like the same leather colors as the outsides.

Always check here before buying. Did you get a refend yet or how far along are you in the claim process? That completed listing needs to be reported so the seller, who very probably knew they were fake, has the fakes and the SNAD claim on record. You shouldn't have to return those since they're illegal to sell, and if the seller is a sneak she'll just break up the lot and list them again.

Yes, I reported the seller and this listing. On the 25th I can ask ebay to step in if I hear nothing from her regarding my return request. I've made note of your comment about not having to return them since they're illegal. I will most definitely check here again if I get those "something isn't quite right, too good to be true" feelings!!

I'm grateful for your time and expertise. Updates will follow soon!

Hi all!
I am a newbie to this site, but a LONGtime Coach connoisseur. I like to buy, refurbish, gift, keep, sell.....you name it!
So. I've been lurking here for a little while and I'd love some clarification on the whole "J8Y" serial numbers. These are always, 100% fake Coach bags??? I bought a few on ebay, and unfortunately I may have been duped. I DO NOT want to resell or gift to friends if they are not authentic. I will also contact the seller and make her aware as well.

I LOVE reading these forum posts as I've learned so much about these wonderful Coach bags!! Thanks in advance for your help and guidance!

There was a time when there wasn't enough solid evidence and the possibility was that some J8Y bags may have been genuine.

It has since been determined that all bags with that prefix are fake.

In addition to what BeenBurned already said, the only possibly genuine Y plant code in any kind of bag at any time in Coach's history was found in 2 possibly genuine travel items made in China with a 2006 year code. (The year code in all the fakes is for 1998). And the jury is still out on those China-made items. But NO Y plant code has ever been found from the 1990s in any genuine bag of ANY kind with a US creed.

Thanks so much.....I was afraid of that, but lesson learned for sure!!

Thanks so very much!! Very helpful info. Looks like I'm the proud owner of 3 very nice looking and well made fakes....yay me!!

Thanks so much for checking in with again!

I initiated a return right after I received verification that all bags were fakes. I also reported the seller for listing/selling counterfeit Coach purses. I imagine that ebay will need to get involved with this one, as I've heard nothing yet. I've been buying and selling on ebay as a hobby for over 21 years and this is the first time I've had an issue like this!

As for the fakes, you say you "initiated a return" and referred to ebay. As long as the requested the return for not "seeming" authentic (Ebay's terminology for counterfeit), you can escalate after the seller's deadline for responding passes. Ebay will find in your favor, require the seller to pay for return shipping and if she doesn't, ebay will send the label and charge the seller's account. You'll win the case as long as you take the necessary steps within the required timeframe.

As required by post 1 on the first page (and we should have asked for it sooner), please post the seller ID and a link to the listing.

This is precisely why we want to see the listing in which the fake(s) were sold. Not only can the listings be reported and sellers' accounts dinged, but the sellers' IDs are searchable both on the forum as well as Google and future buyers can be aware of a seller's history.

(And for the record, bobbiee1682012's lot listing of 3 fakes was removed! Maybe she'll just do the smart thing and issue a full refund. For her to pay for a shipping label to send them back would be throwing good money after bad because unless she can return them to wherever they were purchased, she can't resell them.)

Her previous fakes were removed and there are newly listed items.

Does loveyourshtick really think this is going to work? What buyer will take a chance on listings without pictures or descriptions?!?!? While these aren't reportable since we don't know what she's peddling, my guess is that this is her way of trying to stay under the radar.

Oh, I don't! I sell some clothes on Poshmark and having done some research, I've learned that 1. authentication is listed as one of the responsibilities for entry-level customer success positions (it's right there on the career page!) 2. Certain popular poshers that have had niches with designer items have been asked to "volunteer" as authenticators (there is a reedit thread about this) 3. Posh regularly asks users to "help" posh stay compliant asking random users to verify whether or not things are authentic. :annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:

Mercari is similar. Interestingly, this is partially where The Real Real struggled when going public (SURPRISE! They had no authenticators either), which I'd guess is why Posh's IPO was "delayed." FWIW, I mostly use Poshmark to sell say, Madewell or Anthropologie clothes I've thrifted/am getting rid of but I do not trust it with higher-end or say, Vintage Coach and Dooney.
