Buyers are generally pretty nicely protected when it comes to Ebay... it's a nice system for buyers.
I know. It was prompt, but still a letdown when I didn't get my items.
We got the refund through eBay. We paid through PayPal. The guy had not shipped the item after one week, and we contacted him. He said he would ship it the next day. We waited another two weeks and nothing. No contact and no item. We opened a case and the seller did not respond after several days. We escalated and as soon as we did that (literally TWO MINUTES, I kid you not!), we got an email from eBay saying they had refunded our $75 to the PayPal account. This happened less than a year ago.
The recent one with the Legos was so strange. This started about three weeks ago. The seller had 99.8% positive feedback and I think well over 300 feedbacks. Suddenly, the guy had tons of negatives a few days later for high ticket items saying he did not ship or communicate and we tried to look at his other items and he had nothing for sale. I told my bf not to leave a negative, that maybe something happened. We opened a case and the seller immediately (less than an hour) escalated it with no response. We got the $102 back within five minutes of that, but the seller is still MIA.
My experience was bad.purchased a coach bag,seller never shipped after a week or more,wouldn't respond to emails,and when I reported the problem to eBay they told me it was too soon and to try and communicate with seller.so after 2 weeks I was allowed to open a case,and it still took 4 days for eBay to refund me.wouldn't have been a big deal except for having my money tied up somewhere,and missing out on other ebay deals I could have purchased instead.
Prime reason why I don't shop on eBay myself. bf swears by eBay sometimes, even for stuff he can get in the store for $30 more. First he tries the store, if it is not cheap enough, he goes to Amazon. The he goes to eBay. If there is only a $10 difference, he uses one of the other choices before eBay.

Exactly lacey_stiletto, she's being going on and on for days now and I've just pretty much routinely ignored her posts...even after she's taken the time to quote each member, who had something to say, writing an separate response to each, I still refrain from saying anything...I make one post directly to and in agreement with mang0 and here she comes with the snarky remarks again...but apparently there's nothing wrong with that either...stick a fork in me, I'm done !!!
