Coach And Kate Spade May Be Merging - Declining Sales All Around

It's really disappointing to see how people hold onto these outdated notions of Coach. The comments on a Jezebel article about the acquisition article were pretty ignorant. Almost all of the comments accused Coach of plastering their logo over everything and being poorly made. Like, they can simply go to the flipping website for 30 seconds to see that they're wrong! Hoping that people will start associated Coach with the recent glovetan designs more!

Ditto. It's not my business if the public is just plain ignorant. They're just missing out on great bags!

If Coach wants to win millennials, why don't they just resurrect the Poppy line or something similar? Might have been cheaper than $2.4 billion!

My daughters wouldn't be interested in the Poppy line.
The aren't into bags per se.
Each has one. It's a cross body. Plain leather. One brown one gray.
Their friends don't carry bags either.
Not sure how you would sell bags to a generation that doesn't really see the point of them.

You are absolutely right! I posted this in the KS forum! My daughter and son are that age and their female friends don't either. But I guess they think KS is more "whimsical" and supposedly that appeals to them.

Oldest DD loves KS but the accessories; wristlets, planners, jewelry.
She has many bags but they are totes or backpacks.
Youngest carries A purse when she has to drive or go to work. Otherwise not.
My mom carries one bag per season and keeps them for several years.
Maybe there just aren't enough bag junkies to support that many designers at top tier prices.

I don't know if I'm missing something or being overly sensitive or what, but the whole "Coach bought KS in order to appeal to millennials" that I've been reading in the comments everywhere rubs me the wrong way. At this point, I think KS needs Coach more than Coach needs KS. I am a millennial and I love me some Coach, especially the 1941 line. KS and even MK quality doesn't even compare. KS just overwhelms me. I go to the website and there's just so much that I don't even know what to focus on. It's the same problem I've had with MK lately. Instead of releasing a gazillion different bags every two months, how about focus on a few key pieces and do them well - quality over quantity?

I just hate that when most people think of Coach, they think of the outlet stuff or the tacky C prints of the past decade or so. The stuff Coach is coming out with now blows all of that out of the water. They truly are a completely different brand now and I wish people wouldn't dismiss them because of their old reputation.

I too am a millennial and Coach is by far my favorite brand. I have 1 MK bag and 1 KS bag but around 70 Coach bags as well as a hefty sized SLG and fob collection. The 1941 line has made up practically all of my Coach spending since it came out except for their hologram items. I really feel that MK and KS don't even come close to the quality of Coach. I am pretty biased though, my Mom got me started on Coach before I was even a teenager lol.

My daughters are millennials, and both like bags. The younger has several Coach bags, some she inherited from me, and several I bought for her, including a Phoebe. I don't think the older one likes Coach much anymore. She is influenced by what she sees others carry. She has MK, Kate Spade, Longchamp, and wants LV and Tory Burch.

I find myself just looking at LV and it's so far out of my price range it's not funny. Even if I had that kind of money, I feel like I've gotten better quality from Coach on most occasions, and for a fraction of the price. People say Coach has a brand identity crisis and that "it's everywhere". I see just as many people walking around my local stores carrying LV (fake or otherwise) that I feel like you can make that argument with them and several other high profile brands as well. If I were to see someone with a newer style Coach bag, I almost might not guess it was Coach if I didn't already know, just because I feel like they've been doing so much to revitalize the brand! And that's a good thing. I've only ever seen people carrying KS on rare occasions, although I guess that could be due to where I live.

I agree with you. I'm surprised that people associate with coach the "C" fabric bags. I think it's because they were so ubiquitous because of the outlets.
I am really liking the 1941 collection and especially the Rogue. My only question is that I cannot find information if the Rogue is Italian leather and where it is made, because we are taking Marc Jacobs territory as far as the pricing of it. Anyway, this is not a Rogue forum but thought I'd throw that question out there if anyone knows.

yeah, i agree while my older daughter is completely into bags, my younger one has carried the same one for years.. and honestly has zero intent to replace it till it probably dies, she spends her income elsewhere.

Where you live definitely changes that over saturated angle .. here, yes tons of Coach but all of a sudden KS is everywhere BUT i know an outlet KS store that opened up in a mall that isn't horribly far away so i think that is why lol.

I adore LV, want one but i find myself questioning the price even moreso when i see the poor beat up second hand ones, i often wonder is it just 'purse abuse' or is it the quality. Coach, is okay but the prices of the current stuff just doesn't please me.. i will not go there for what they resale for, not that i buy with that intent but i don't want to completely eliminate the option of out of possibilities...

Frankly, i am back out of designer again, i find if i were to be honest, i can get better made, better leathers and so much cheaper from labels not associated with 'high fashion' ...

Should be interesting to see how this all ends, a sinking ship should be removing weight not adding it. Good luck Coach.

Probably because if it;s not adored with the C's they have no idea it is in fact Coach, i know what to look for but most 'regular folks' haven't a clue unless the item is emblazoned with the name brand.
