The loop goes on the shoulder strap on the side with stud. It's meant to hold the excess strip down. The older bags have one loop, the newer have two loops.

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I'm carrying the bag today! Yay!

Can you tell me any information about when This style was first introduced. I know the first design did not have the shoulder strap. And that's actually one of the reasons why I bought this one as I found the strap cumbersome. And being an LV speedy purist I appreciate a handheld! One more thing, my bag is a mere puddle of leather when I put it down. It is really smooshy and soft is that how all of the roccos are?
