I had a second bowl ready with clean water for rinsing, but when i saw Flora running, i rushed to the fridge to get the ice, i put a lot, water became very cold, but it didn't help really, first i rinsed silk one, it was all fine, clean water and firm colours, when i rinsed Flora water was obviously pink

Conclusion:
Hand wash does not work for silk and cashmere, don't risk and use a trusty dry clean service.
But on the good side, it perfectly works on silk ones! The yellow stain is gone from my Hiver en Poste!
Inspired by good results on the silk, i quickly washed other 2, oldies, pre-80's, all worked out well, no run, no bleeding :)

Some more pics: i put them flat on the towels to dry naturally, and this is what i saw when i lifted the Flora up, white towel had very noticeable pink stains, though the scarf looks fine, and colours are pretty bright and not cross stained
P.S. those strange spots on the lilac flowers in the middle are not stains, it's a pillow below the scarf :)

I have had good luck hand washing cashmere/silks and silk twills. And there is often some color in the water after washing dark or bright scarves. People always say red is tricky, so maybe that was what happened with your FG, but looks good now, right?

Yes, thank god, it dried and looks good now, but i had a few minutes of panic....
good to know that darker colours are known to leave some dye in the water, so it's not that risky... i was not ready to see that, but i think, i can try again on my lighter coloured Cavalcadour as well.... :)
thank you, moma, for your intel, it gives me confidence to keep on trying :flowers:

You are already an expert, see? Now you will want to wash all your scarves because of the freshness and revived colors. By the way, I use a dark blue bucket sometimes for washing. You can't see if there is color in the water or not, so no panicking at all!!:biggrin::biggrin:

Ladies, why do you wash your silk scarves as the label says dry cleaning only.?I did wash once and I feel sorry for that. There was no discolouraion but the fabric got softer. I have let my scarves being dry cleaned since that. And it works.

Dry cleaners are not known for taking care not to press hems, clean in big bins full of other stuff that could snag, are expensive for a quality cleaner and most use very toxic chemicals that I would rather not wear.

I prefer to clean spots as needed and hand wash/wool wash/delicate wash 99% of my dry clean items. They are all lovely and well cared for.

Thanx for your reply, of course dry cleaners are different, it took me some time to find a really good one. I do not have problems with pressed hems and I pay 6,5 euros for a scarf to clean.

Hi Ladies,
I just purchased my first few Hermes scarves and have been reading such incredible valuable advice on this thread! You are all bold and daring and do agree that a 'dry cleaning' label does not mean it cannot be hand washed. I have washed a lot of my cashmere by hand.

I have a CSGM scarf and although new and not ready to be washed, I am reading in preparation for my first wash.

I live in Canada and I am having a difficult time finding color catcher sheets/detergent. Wondering if anyone here has tried vinegar to prevent color running? I am just not sure if vinegar would be too acidic for these fine H cashmere/silk fibres.

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't trust a cleaner in my town to dry clean an expensive scarf. Also, I would not want my hems pressed flat at all. Plus, dry cleaning solutions are not kind to silk. It takes me only a few minutes to wash a 90cm scarf and then go outside and let it dry in the breeze. The fabric getting softer helps it drape better because the sizing that was applied to it is cleaned off. Thats a good thing IMO as I prefer drapey scarves and not stiff ones.

I have checked the hems, nothing wrong, they are not flat.
I wonder why hermes attaches a tag dry cleaning, if it is not good for silk?
But many men, many minds
