Scarves Cleaning and Caring for Hermès Scarves

I am about to cry. I was just folding my favorite scarf to put it away and saw that it has a stain on it. I do not know where it came from, I am usually very careful, and I don't know what to do. I have heard that it is not good to send your scarves to the dry cleaners. Can anyone tell me how to clean my scarf? I am so upset about this.

Go to your most expensives dry cleaner and tell them that after the cleaning they must not iron the seam flat !

Also tell them not to pin a :cursing: tag on the silk!

I no longer trust dry cleaners. The more expensive ones aren't necessarily better IME.

I don't trust them either, as it didn't matter how many times I told them specifically not to pin into the silk or iron the hems, and every time, they'd do one or both of the no-no's. I now wash mine exclusively, and I'm never disappointed with the results.:D

It takes a little time, but I think swishing silk is very good therapy!

You're right lilyhermes - such a good therapy ... and less expensive than a psy :thinkin:

Hi girls, I had good "swishing therapy last nite and this morning! Just received my
Le Blanc silk wash. Did a twilly, just to get my feet wet, last nite. Came out beautiful,
and this morning washed my Les Poneys, it is drying now. The awful spinach spot came
out and I think it's going to be a great success! Thank you all for your wonderful instructions. Used the color catcher on both and that really makes a difference!

Hello everyone! I came upon this thread as I'm going to attempt to hand wash a scarf to fluff up the flattened hems...maybe tomorrow, I'll have more courage then.

However, I wanted to state here that Madame Paulette in NYC managed to get out black Sharpie marker from one of my scarves! I was thrilled! I wish I had before and after pictures, but I did post the story here:

Oh here is a link to their website:

Well, it is time for my Winter Walk to have a long overdue cleaning... I've been putting it off and off until I plucked up the courage :tumbleweed:

I'm even thinking of buying a cheap, stained H scarf from eBay and using it as a guinea pig!!

Anyway, the silk swirling therapy does sound appealing, so if I'm still brave this afternoon I'll give it a go & report the results :dots:

HURRAY! Don't know what I was so worried about! I used only a smidge of Lux pure soap flakes & a colour catcher as per some very expert advice ;) and some vinegar in the first rinse. She's come out very nicely and I actually started to enjoy the washing, but boy that first moment when it hits the water is not for the faint-hearted!! My teeth were clenched together!!!! :sweatdrop:

Here she is drying and now we're both relaxing after the initial tension!!!! I think I will do the damp folding as I prefer soft folds to crisp lines.

THANK YOU :flowers:to everyone who posted advice here & to CB, I would never have attempted this without your help (and it probably would have been ruined by a dry-cleaner!)

Hi everyone,

I'm new to habdwashing scarves. One of my scarves has got water or drink mark on it after a night out with colleagues. The mark is in the corner right next to the hem. Not sure if I am brave enough to handwash the whole scarf. But I'm not content just letting it stay there. My ironing skills is not too good. If I take it back to H for drycleaning I would have to wait till next weekend. Also I'm not sure if drycleaning will remove watermark.

I tried washing my scarf following
instructions from fleurs this morning. It looks like the watermark stain is gone. Fingers crossed that my ironing skills will not damage the scarf.

Thanks for sharing tips on cleaning scarves.
