I would be careful with OxyDeep. As far as I know it contains hydrogen peroxide, and even in a very weak solution, you would be risking color-fading.

My rule of thumb is: If you wouldn't bathe a baby in it, don't use it on your H scarves!

Even with Woolite, I use just a smidgen - far less than the recommended amount.

I think you might be thinking of OxyClean. OxyDeep doesn't have peroxide in it, at least not on the label of the bottle I have. I've used it on dozens of H scarves with no issues.

Someone told me Woolite leaves a residue, so now I use a drop of shampoo or an unscented dishwashing liquid as the soap.

It's called Oxy Deep® Oxygen Activated System, and the active ingredient is hydrogen peroxide.

I was told that Woolite leaves no residue unless you use too much and don't rinse enough.

Anyone else here have more information?

That's a totally different product; I've never heard of it. I have OxyDeep spot & stain remover made by Woolite (though the Woolite name isn't on the package), and as I said, I've used it on dozens of H scarves with no dye run or any fading.

The friend who told me about Woolite leaving a residue is a textiles expert for U.S. Customs. That's the only info I have.

Hi doreenjoy,
I'm a bit confused now. Is it one of these?

I only found it on the Woolite carpet cleaner site, not on the regular Woolite site.
Where do yu buy it?

No, it isn't any of those. How odd, I can't find it on that site at all! I wonder if they ceased production of the product I have, and started using a similar name for another product (the carpet cleaner). I've had it for a long time (like 4+ years, I don't use much of it so it lasts a long time). I bought it at Target in 2005 or 2006.

Whatever the case, your point about hydrogen peroxide is well taken and something to watch out for.

I've also used 100% pure acetone to remove ink stains and lipstick, just for the sake of keeping up the thread's information.

Hmmm... Well, I do love a good mystery!

I'm still assuming that anything with "Oxy" in its name will involve some ort of interaction of hydrogen peroxide with stains, releasing free oxygen in the process, as the H and O molecules rearrange to form water and discard the extra O molecules. Someone correct me if I'm wrong - high school science class lies decades in the past!

As for the acetone - I shall give it a try. Till now I've used benzine, but only rarely; I believe this is what is used by dry cleaners. I do hate the smell, though!

I find that using organic baby shampoo has worked great when cleaning my scarves.
I actually had some that I used on my 4 legged furry babies (dogs) and it worked great!!
I also use the white vinegar during the second step (first rinse).

I know some stains will not come out, but I will not dry clean.
I washed a scarf that I had dry cleaned and I thought there was a gas leak in my apt.
until I realized my scarf smelled like chemicals once it was wet...YUCK!!:nogood:

I have to say it does feel like a great achievement once you have successfully washed a scarf on your own!

Oh, please don't. Benzene should only be used in a properly vented environment, under a fume hood or with a vented extractor.

Markova : just to tell you : my mother used essence A to clean my father's ties - until one day the fire takes on the wool sweater she was wearing - happy ending she has nothing only some hair burned but I cannot imagine what could happen ..... it is very dangerous

let you imagine how was the tie ....

Hi ladies,I just found a dark spot on my eggplant dipdye. Wonder if I could spot clean, if so with
what or would it be better to wash the whole scarf! Very nervous!

Pamella : two weeks ago was eating with my friend at work and spot my dd lie de vin (maybe the same as you (purple one) with sauce - just put water on hit and press the scarve between my two fingers and do nothing else - little spot left - arrived at home do the same operation again and put the wet part into a bath tower and just let dry - miracle it was all gone - no stains and no spots -
just it's my experience I want to share - but I think result depends on what is on your scarf - maybe it's better to determine it before doing
Sure you'll find a great solution
