No offense what-so-ever...but I think Hermes bags are so dreadfully unappealing to the eye and over the top stuffy...Reminds me of the old ladies I see at the country club golfing every week...I consider my vintage Chanel much more of a classic bag...

The Birkin is soooo beautiful!!! You are so lucky!! I do think bags can be considered as investment pieces as the prices for LV and Chanel goes up every year, but then again, I have yet to sell any of my LV's or Chanels because I love them too much!! I think you should buy the the bags you really love, the ones that make you stay up all night thinking about them!! I love the Chanel quilt, I have one in black with silver hardware, and it is a really, really beautiful bag and worth every penny. Now I want one in beige....

All i care about is .... will my daughter be proud to carry this bag 20 years from now? ... if the answer is yes ... then it IS a good investment .... its like a rolex or a cartier watch ......... and sometimes i will splurge and buy a bag that isnt a timeless peace just becaue i love it ..... :)

I definitely go for durability, style and value. I no longer go for trends cuz it's transient. I want something that will last, like a legacy. I love my Chanel classic!!! I know I will use it only a few times a year, but it will last me forever!

Buy a bag for investment pieces? That is so wrong. You buy a bag because you love the design. It's the same like you buy a diamond ring. You're not going to keep it in the safe, aren't you? Every bag also has it years and day. Once it is so outdated and too worn out to be used, stop using them immediately.

If I want to invest, I'd rather invest in something else which gives me huge hard cold cash!

My first classic bag was a traditional Chanel white that is small but considered traditional Chanel ( at least when I got it in the early 80's). When Princess D died I purchased the Dior Diana bag. Everyone had the LV Speedy in the mid-80's so I had to buy that one too! Unfortunatley when it comes to Hermes I saw too many excellent replicas on Canal Street in New York so stayed away from buying the real thing.

I would NEVER buy an 'it' bag but then, how do I know a Balenciaga First isn't the next Chanel 2.55??

I am student and WAY too poor to buy every bag Nicole Richie has and then chuck it away 6 months later so bag-wise I spend my money on tried-and-tested classics that have been around for a number of decades already.

That said, if a bag that is classic doesn't fit my style or wardrobe then I won't just buy it because it has been popular for 50 years.

But my first designer bag purchase was an LV moka epi Alma and I truly believe that, as well as loving the bag to death now, I will be able to carry it when I am 85 years old.

That to me is classic.
