Choosing VCA over Rolex

Hi! I am a Rolex lover, and I love the brand. I think to love a Rolex you need to know what it was meant for. The Submariner is a diver’s watch, the Daytona is a racing watch, the GMT is a pilot’s watch...
Rolex watches are sporty and chunky. Cellini is feminine, but if you go that route, I prefer Patek.

I like my watches to be big, sporty, and bold. I like the sporty contrast of it against fine jewelry. I feel more chic.

A 28mm watch is not a big watch by today’s standards. If you like big watches, to make a sporty impact, try a 36mm or even a 40mm. These are technically men’s sizes, but tons of women wear them. I wear a Daytona, 40mm, but the design is so clean. A lot of women wear Daytonas (you can google to see how awesome they look on women).

And to answer your other question... no, I would not wear a Swatch with your VCA. I would think you are buying VCA for the brand and want to achieve a fashion look. Swatch and VCA is not a mix I would do. If you want that look, an Apple watch would be a better choice. But of course you can wear whatever you want. These are just my thoughts to share since you asked.

I do hope you try on larger Rolexes. 28mm is too small, and this size by today’s standards is in no man’s land... it is neither dainty feminine nor chunky sporty.

A watch is like a piece of jeweler to me. Everyone who enjoys fine jewelry should own a nice watch.

Just my thoughts. Good luck!

To think of it, it is funny you mention that VCA watches do not show time clearly! If I remember correctly my teen years Swatch has no dial at all?

the VCA watch would literally be a no brainer I reckon - the Alhambra one:angel:
Nowadays, a lot of Swatches have markers and it can be dressed up or down.

I attached a photo to show what I have now.

By the way, I am not talking about the look. I am talking about the brand. Using your same example, you can buy four leaf clover necklaces and flower rings that are not VCA but have a similar look.

I am talking more about the brand because you asked if Swatch works with VCA.

You have been given lots of input, but I think deep down, you love your Swatch.

So maybe that’s what you should stay with. If you want a heavy steel weight (I love a heavy watch too), a Rolex or Casio will give you that. For your watch, you can get that same look with a Rolex SS Datejust with salmon pink dial (I had one actually).

So the question to ask yourself is... does brand matter to you? For me, it does matter.

Have you looked at Chopard watches? They are very feminine and I think would
go beautifully with VCA pieces. You should check them out. They’re really pretty and I’m pretty sure you can find one on your price range. Let us know what you decide.
I have just visited Chopard website and yes, I saw some that I like. I will go to their store to try them on. Do their watches last long without any repairs? I have never had a self winding watch before and all I know is that the quartz watches are very reliable and worry-free and they last for more than 6, 7 years if not more than 10 years without any repairs.

Thank you so much. I think I like Chopard styles more than Cartier.

What attacts me to a brand first is the design. VCA for example, I first saw an advertisement as I was working for my first job. I liked the design and then I went to an VCA store to explore. Then I realized that I really like the brand and their designs.

I have never liked big watches maybe because I like those movies from the 50s and 60s and I like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. I like Gone with the Wind too. In those eras, women wore small watches or even men wore small watches. I think that small mechanic watches are difficult to make because everything is so tiny, you can't put everything together with a trembling hand. Probably a robot can do that.

Why I am not buying a Rolex is because I don't find their designs appealing to me but their 5 year warranty is pulling me back there hence I went to their store and give it a try. I think buying a mechanic watch is a huge risk so a brand offering longer warranty is a plus.

Oh, if you like feminine watches, Patek Phillipe has some nice styles. And of course VCA watches.

I am sure you will have lots of fun shopping trying all these new brands. I’m excited for you!

There's one style from Petek that has been recommended by a fellow member here. The style twenty 4. I took a look at their website and it does look good. What stops me is the size( size 34 or 36 mm) and diamond and the price as my lifestyle and work environment don't require a watch that fetch such price and such bling.

Then I followed the same member's suggestions and found one from Breguet which is closer to what I like in terms of style and price.

I will go to Chopard as well.

Thank you so much for your suggestions and your time to read my posts.

Have you considered the JLC Rendezvous? My husband bought me the size 32(?) with a diamond bezel and it's quite feminine. Something about the details in the face reminds me of some of the VCA watches. I'll see if I can find a photo of it.

The Rolex is a very expensive watch brand to purchase “because it’s a Rolex”.
If you don’t think it’s the watch for you, don’t get it.

I happen to have a 31 lady datejust and love it. I wear it with my Cartier and VCA. It’s just a matter of the look you want.
Yes, it is expensive but if I like it or feel the excitement like I do with my VCA pieces, I will get a Rolex but the thing is I don't feel the excitement. I question myself like if it feels the same like I put on my Swatch, what is the point of getting a Rolex? Lady datejust looks nice I tried on the 28mm with oyster bracelet. It is just the feelings I got from it that does not justify the price.

That’s was my point. Like I said in my comment, don’t get a Rolex just because it’s a Rolex.

A watch is a real preference. I love mine and considering a second.

Some more ideas for you....
