Chipped the edge of my new love bracelet

I would not get it polished. I had my 4-year old love polished when I had the screw enhancement, and although it came back looking almost new, I could tell the screw motifs are not as prominent as they were, but probably only I can see this. And now 4 months later with everyday wear it definitely is getting more scratches. I got a deep gash in mine from a zipper on a purse, and even with polishing it’s still visible but I just turned it to bottom so I don’t see it most of the time. I did move it to my non-dominant hand to avoid the bottom from getting really dull from computer work and it really helped reduce that type of wear. Please wear your beautiful bracelet—don’t be afraid of it and enjoy it! I don’t worry about scratches anymore as my bracelets become part of me.

There is little point in rehashing this over in your mind and making yourself feel badly over that has already happened. It happened, it was very unfortunate but the best thing you can do is put it on and move on. It is a gorgeous bracelet that is meant to be worn and take life hits. Forget social media - that is all fake in a sense. @Swanky said it best.

Honestly, give it some time and you won’t notice it anymore. I babied my small Love when I first got it (it was so beautiful with its fresh mirror-like shine), but of course, it developed a patina over time. I accept that it now has scratches and don’t really sweat it anymore.

Enjoy your bracelet and wear it!!

Thanks everyone, taking it to cartier in a few days just to see what they say. Should i get it shined (not polished)? Or is too early for that even?

We wear a lot of gold jewelry in our culture and someone suggested i take it to our gold jeweler and have them fill (?) And fix it. I considered it for a sec and then came back to my senses lol

I can see you’ve decided to take it to Cartier to see what they say. You have to do what you feel is best and I do understand how disappointing it is when you’ve not had it very long.

I love most of the comments and was just going to echo some already made, particularly ‘put it back on and wear it’. Unfortunately just because we pay the price for high end jewellery, bags, shoes etc does not mean they’re indestructible and won’t get scratched or damaged whilst we are loving and enjoying them. It’s what makes them unique and personal.

I hope you get back to wearing it very soon!

I had a dent on mine (cuff) the FIRST day of wearing it hhh No idea how it happened but it did (I do not baby jewellery, must have knocked it somehow) was chocked for a few seconds then moved on.. it's life, if you wear it as your daily bracelet it WILL get scratched, you may get some dents and you won't notice them anymore - It's a love and meant to be loved ❤️ Enjoy your beautiful bracelet!

Definitely do not let anyone other than Cartier work on it. If you do and are not happy with the results, they’ll never service it again.

This is why I love pre-loved. When I buy something already a little worm, i see a beautiful patina. When I buy something new I always agonize the first scar. But they happen. I don’t see this as particularly bad and, as everyone else has said, wear this bracelet everyday for years and the scratches and dings become mementos of a life well lived.

Put it back on, put the ding in a direction where you are least likely to see it and carry on.

Yes you can get have them do the quick shine, but that doesn't really do anything. It just shines it up, won't remove any scratches.

Let us know what you decide. Ive been there! My first dent and scratch happened when I put my first bracelet on and I thought this style was not meant for me. In time, they have blended into the bracelets that I have been wearing for years. The fresh new bracelet is beautiful but it can't stay pristine if worn as it is meant to, all the time. Dings and scratches will continue to happen but will blend into the bracelet over time. I hope you put it back on and enjoy it.

Sure have them shine it! I
don’t know if every boutique received this paste mine uses, but when they cleaned mine a few weeks ago, they looked brand new. My SA said it’s a relatively new product they received to use.
But a brand new shiny bracelet with a dent may make it even more obvious…

Definitely do not allow a non-Cartier jeweler touch it, you don’t want to void their warranty/service.

Have them buff those areas only since your bracelet is new. I think it will come back improved.

I had a small scuff buffed out and a deep shine when I got mine engraved, and I was pleased that I got the scuff removed.

I would also suggest wearing a wristband when doing housework, etc to protect it for the first 3 months during “the adjustment period” to the bracelet.

I don’t like scratches so I wear one frequently and have avoided many scratches.

I would suggest bringing it to your nearest Cartier boutique. I know they have warranty on all of their pieces, but they might consider this wear and tear ): I absolutely think it’s worth trying though. I recently had an experience with a big chip in my panthere watch and warranty was able to cover it. I know how heartbreaking this sort of thing can be, but I’m sure that there’s something that can be done (whether it be polishing/re-dipping the piece/etc.)

Love bracelets are like people - we get scars and those scars make us who we are, and they get scars and those scars make the bracelet's unique to each wearer. Don't let scratches or small dents ruin the experience of owning a Love. The first scratch or dent is painful. Then your Love will get others and will develop a patina and you won't really notice or care about the scratches. I got my first love 15 years ago, it has lots of scratches and some small dents. These are 18Kt gold and gold is soft so these marks are inevitable.

I would not get the bracelet polished. Every time you polish it you lose small amounts of metal. If you continue to have the bracelet polished each time it gets scratched or dented, eventually the screw motif will not look as deep and the edges of your bracelet will look rounded, taking away from the actual design. If you absolutely feel you need it polished I would not do it more than once every 10 -15 years. Personally, I'm never going to polish mine. If you want to try to lessen the scratch just slightly, buy a "Cape Cod cloth" and gently wipe it over the area. Do not do the edges or you might eventually dull/round them, and don't do it often or you might eventually reduce the depth of the screw motif. Good luck and I hope this helps!

Thank you everyone for your advice and support! I very much appreciated evrryones input and you all made me feel a lot better. I went to cartier today and im elated to report that the service advisor buffed the scratch and dent, took about 10 min while we waited, and this was the end result! I had to get home and look for where the original damage was because I could not find it by just looking down. Im so relieved! The edge is still sharp and square too! I asked them to put it back on my left wrist but it ended up being a little too snug to be comfortable (might also be because im bloated today bc of my period) so i put it back on my right. I will wear a wristband and try to be more careful and hopefully switch it to my left wrist down the line (but i do wear a watch everyday so i dont know!). I just needed to share the results, thanks so much everyone , i couldnt be more pleased
